Extra cranks to start engine? HELP!

I got a 2001 CL-P and i noticed that whenever i drive for 15 minutes or so, stop the engine, then restart, it takes extra cranks of the starter to start the engine. is this a defect in the model or just something that happens in the engines naturally? i was also wondering if this could be why i am getting bad gas mileage. (something to do with a the fuel pump i am presuming) it is even worse when i drive on the highway for an hour, it takes about 5 seconds to start the car after 30 minutes of highway drivin.
