Extended Warranty - is it worth getting?

Hey guys,

My warranty expired this past March ( I have an '01 CLS), I was looking into extending the warranty through Acura Care for 7 yrs / 100,000 miles, for a little under 1500 bucks. I know that the transmission is already covered for 100,000 miles but is this warranty worth getting?

I hear the headlights when and if they go out are pretty expensive to fix along with other things that add up quickly.

Just wanted to see what folks on the forum did so that I can make a decision.

Thanks,

I don’t think you can “extend” a warranty that has already expired, but I could be wrong.

For 1,500 I wouldn't do it. I only paid 850 for my 7/75,000 plan.

Apparently there is a certain period of time that you can buy the warranty. Right now acura care will only sell it for cars that are 2001 and newer.

I would be able to get it for 1345 with the discount, that is mainly because I did not buy it when I had fewer miles.

I agree shawn, and I also paid 850 for my 7/75K

I thought 850 was worth it because one repair could cost that much, and it extended the Acura TLC

The 7/75 plan for me is $1110 with the discount.

Has the warranty come in handy for you guys or are you still under the original?

Well, if you do get 1, make sure it is the Acura Care. It will fix most problems w/OEM parts. Plus, they pay for a rental if it needs to stay @ the dealership.

I've worked @ Honda (5 n 1/2 years now) & people get more out of it that what they paid for it 80% of the time.

So Honda loses $$$ on 80% of their extended warranties? Sounds like a sound business strategy to me!

Not when you think about what a customer would have to pay rather than actual cost my friend...

I agree; moreso with Acura since my acura dealer charges much more than the same parts that are available at a Honda dealer or online for much less. Example: alternator belt pulley tensioner at my dealer $120--Honda and on-line $70. Even my air filter is $45 at the dealer and less han $20 on-line. I don't have the warranty but a few electrical-electronic problems could be big bucks and I'll be kicking myself for not getting the warranty.

Thumbs up

Go for it!! I bought a 01 CL-P Certified and they offered the Acura Care 7/100000 for only $998. If you have the extra cash... It is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it... And from what I can tell... It covers a lot of stuff

I got it for piece of mind. Just one less thing to have to worrry about. I may never actually use the $1200 worth of warranty service, but you never know. If you have the cash on hand, I think it's worth it.

Let me ask you guys, under the acura warranty, if my rotors go bad will they replace them for free? What about stuff that wears out like brake pads, oil changes and other services like that. In other words, how can I find out what that warranty covers?!

I had the extended warranty and all I can say is that I was glad that I got it. My 01 CLS currently has 120K miles on it. I paid $998 for the 5/100000 or maybe it was 7/100000, talk them down on the warranty, don't let them fool you that it's below their cost, blah, blah. I used my credit card and they charged me 10 equal payments of about $100, so you don't feel like you just droped $1000.

In the course of my extended warranty I have had the following replaced.

ABS system..Abs failure or leak, they replaced the entire system
Headlights..condensation, they replaced both headlights
Actuator..failed, they replaced it
VSA...failed shortly after tranny was replaced, they replaced it

Peace of Mind.....
Something goes wrong take it in and it's no problem we will take care of it.

Not like some of the horror stories I have heard about trying to get this or that replaced out of warranty for little or no cost.

I got an extended warranty from my credit union pentagon federal when I bought my car used at 36k last year. The warranty is bumper to bumper and cost my about 900 bucks for 4 years 48k from when *I* purchased the car and in addition to the mileage at the time of my purchase. My car has right now 50, 803 miles on it and I just had to get the drivers side front axle replaced. Needless to say, my extended warranty saved me about 700 bucks!!!!!! Only think I had to pay was the diag fee from the dealer.

Yes, only a dealer that sells it.

Some sell 3rd party 1s b/c they make a bit more $ on them but I'd stick to AcuraCare.

The only advamtage I can see to getting some other company's warranty instead of acura care is that some offer the warranty from the date of purchase...
that means if u have 30,000 miles and u buy a 7yr/100k warranty, it will be covered for 130,000 miles.

From what i understand acura care runs off of ure original odomoter, meaning at 100k rhw service will be gone.

Yes, however, your car is always fixed w/OEM parts....
which to me is very important...

+ rental car,
+ hotel & food (when over 100 miles from home)!
