Extended and other warranties
Hello all,
Thanks for all the input from all you guys regarding the CL ebing discontinued etc and also the cost of the car. Now that i have decided to buy the car, just wanted to know that if i decide to keep the CL for at least 7 years, then is it important for me to buy extended warranty, gap insurance and road hazard from the dealer now. Are all these important or can i buy them later. Is it also true that if i decide to buy the warranty later then the cost of the extended warranty will depend on the number of miles on the car. And practically speaking, do i really need extended warranty? Do things go bad in the CL after 4 years? For eg. my dealer was saying that some chip for the BOSE system conked out and it cost 1500 bucks. Is this all a way for them to get me to buy these warranties, or is all this true. Also, how much did it coist you guys to get it if any of you did? Especially in Houston, Texas.
Any input would be great.

Get the extended warranty and the gap insurance. Just consider it an insurance policy. Acura has a good reputation, but, it is a machine and can break down. Gap insurance is cheap...maybe a dollar or 2 on your payment. Roll it all in to the package.

Judgement call! Prior to Honda Ameican extending the warranty on the transmission I would have said 100% get the extended warranty, but now that the warranty has been extended for free it's not as much of priority to pay for it.

The gap insurance is new to me too, and frankly i do not understand it myself. But the dealer kept pushing it and since i have not got the car, i asked them to put it just to get away.![Smile](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The other thing that surprised me is that first they told me that they can finance me at 7%. When i told them i had got a quote from peoplefirst, they matched the APR, provided I bought the insurance. This tells me that they are trying to slip it in so that they can make money off it coz i got the car at invoice. I think i will try to apply for the american honda finance online at the cura site and see what they have to offer as well. But i still need to know if I really do need extended warranty right now, or should i worry about it in a year or so?

If your loan is say 32,000 on a 34,000-dollar car.
Six months down the road the car is only worth 25-26K at best but you still owe more then 30K on the loan.
If the car gets totaled or stolen, the bank gets the “GAP” money between the value and the loan.
That way you’re back at ZERO and not paying a loan on a car you don’t have anymore.

I've been researching the Warranty Gold plan. It really seems like a viable option to the Acura plan, especially since you can take up almost the full 4 years of Acura coverage, buy the Warranty Gold coverage for 6 or 7 years, and get a total of 10 or 11 years coverage. It does add the time on, does not base it from purchase date. So if it takes you 10 years to rack 100k miles, your covered. Rather attractive plan. Initially they seemed to have some bad feedback many years ago but it seems as though they've turned around and are doing rather well. With as much expensive automated crap as we have on these cars, just a failure in the climate control would pay for the extended warranty.

Just follow the directions on the screen(s) and it gives you the price/plan right on the screen like I posted for mine.
Enter all the numbers and then pick the plan you want.
