exhaust tone question

ok im a little afraid to ask but in order to achieve a deeper more "there" tone do i have to go with a complete exhaust system or can it be done with a simple muffler swap or tips?

i know what some of you are thinking why not go with a complete system..... well money is an issue and i have a cl-p so i could care less about hp or torque gains.....
