Excess exhaust smoke and sut on rear bumper, input please?
this shop I was talking to was lloking at my car today, and he pointed out how black my exhaust tips were from the inside, almost like a blackboard. I thought to myself that it wasn't a huge deal, but then he told me how much black dust was all over the rear of my bumper and trunk, which I noticed all the time, but never figured it was from that. He even told me that my exhasut wasn't white, but rather a dark grey. What could be the problem and solution?

The inside of the magnaflow tips of my car is dark (same as you describe) yours and all I have is an intake. No black dust on my bumper, but I have a black car so I may not notice it. I don't think its need for concern.

ron, the black dust is probably carbon from your headers, I dont remember if the headers cut out any cats for the acura cl-s, but i know with my IS I have this problem with the black sut bc I have no cats and normally on a stock Is theres 3.
heres closeup pic of my dragger, all that discoloring is sut built up its not burnt bc i can wash it off. thank god im switch to a full rear bumper instead of a lip so it wont look like that anymore nor crack the paint from too much heat.

Well, if your concerned about the car running rich, maybe a fuel management system (emanage) can be used to lean it out a bit.

Well, I have HKS Super dragers, and and AEM CAI, and a set of OBX crap headers that have a crack in one of the welds with black sut around it. The mechanic mentioned that I am probably running rich.
1.) Does that have any adverse affect on perfortmance?
2.) MPG?
3.) How can I fix it without modding anymore. is there a way to just adjust whats already on the car?

I didnt see a drastic drop in MPG, but then again I wasnt watchin for it. It could also be your O2 sensor isnt working anymore. My guess is since the car is running rich, there will be a slight drop in MPG. Performance wise, prolly not since WOT has both mixtures running as much air and fuel as possible anyway. Good luck

I hope its not the O2 sensor, I would guess that if it went out, I would get some dashboard lights. It happened before when the OBX bung was in the way of the oil pan. I guess I'll take it to a mechanic to see what can be done.

Running rich will burn up your plugs. Also decrease MPG. Usually a bad sensor is accompanied by a CEL.
I would run a WB sensor on your exhaust and see if it's running ~14.7:1 at idle. That is a good way to see how your car is doing.
