An ex-CLS owner considering another one...
I had an 01 CLS, which I loved. I sold it after the baby came.
I noticed a red CL-S yesterday on the side of the road for sale. It is a 2003 6 speed w/ navi. Price says $14,750.
As I walked around it, I noticed a very large dent in the front bumper cover just under the passenger headlight. There is also a small dent in the hood, and what seems to be some scratches covered by touch up paint. Also, an ugly dent near the 3.2 emblem on the trunk. The interior looks great.
I spoke withe the guy that is selling just now. He is looking to get $13,200 (kind of stated that this is his rock bottom price).
A. I think even 13.2 is high.
B. It has 76k miles. How are your 6-speeds with mileage?
C. I will not see the car when I get in it everyday. I'll see the ugly damage.
Thoughts? I am seriously considering this car.

hmm, i have 790000 on my 2003 6speed nbp cl-s... 13,200 is way too high, also it has a bunch of dents... I'd say about 10500-11000 is the price it should be selling for. Check on KBB.com
well due to the exterior damage IMO thats a little high priced. It does have navi and is 6MT so thats a plus. But I think that you should try to bump off another 1K-1.5K. Maybe even 2K. WOrk with him That would be a little of a better price due to what you will need to pay to fix the damage.

He just came back with $12,455 and writing me a receipt for 6500 (save taxes).
Counter with 11k? Tell him I will have a check in 2 days?

Yeah, price is high... I wonder what it would cost to fix the issues and paint...
It's got navi, which is nice, but it sounds a little beat up...
I've got 73K miles on my SMR 6spd and it hasn't had any major issues (except a couple initial quality problems when it was new).

I have a buddy that can do all the work for me. I wonder if I'll need a new bumper cover though?
Is there an aftermarket (non-rice) one?
..
Looks like a no:
"My offer for you still stands at $12,455.00 with only paying taxes on $6,000 when you register it. This is a very fair deal. KBB matters and that is why I'm lowering the price but supply and demand is more of a factor."
Crap.

The car needs work to be perfect. Period.
I just bought a 2003 CL-S MT with Navi, 97,000 miles (Red, Parchment) for $9250. Granted, it needed some work, but it was also still under the extended warranty, and that covered a lot of stuff.
I think the market in Colorado less favorable for this car due to our winter weather. The seller had it on Craigslist for a month and couldn't sell it on eBay. He was pretty desperate by the time I made my offer.
The big headache I'm facing now is that the clutch needs replacing ($1300). After that, hopefully the car will give me some trouble free miles.
cheers,

on the supply/demand deal... I'll sell you my red CLS 6spd w/ 73K miles for $13K
...ONLY JOKING... or am I ?

There's a lot more of 'em out there... autotrader alone lists 37 nationwide, and then there are some on cars.com ebay and craigslist...
Honestly it doesn't sound like such a bad deal as is. He's offering a tax break which is getting you a little closer to your offer. Plus you said your boy could take care of the body for cheap, and get it "perfect" for you. I love my 6spd got it 2 yrs ago with only 19K after looking for a year for the right one. Maybe a test drive is in order if you haven't done so already?
I hope it has the black interior, but it's probably the tan.
Check the car out thoroughly, since it has the body damage that was never fixed, what else was broken and never fixed?
my 6Mt has 54k miles now and has been very reliable, I don't abuse it but drive it spiritedly often.

no probs
My CLS 6MT just passed 65k and it is running like new. Never had any problems. And its still under CPO warranty, so if anything comes up..no worries.
I was seriously thinking bout selling it for a smaller car, since this baby is a limo coupe, but I can't seem to find another car I like more (yet). Staying in chicago, a 190" car really sucks when you're looking for parking and paying $200 a month for garage space is REALLY eating at my pocketbooks.
What do you guys think about a 2004 TT 3.2? Its short so paring should be better. AWD is sweet for chicago winters and its pretty fun on backroads.
