Engine Smoking - Possible Seal Leak

Has anyone had an oil seal problem?

about 2 weeks ago, I started to notice a burning oil smell. I checked the oil level, and it seemed a bit low. How low? I don't know. I thought it would be a good idea to dump 2 quarts in there. *probably a mistake* Everything was going fine until last Friday.

I was out 'driving spiritively' and when I pulled up to a friends house, he noticed my car was huffing white smoke from the engine bay. Lifted the hood to see smoke rising up. I couldn't determine where it was coming from. I hope it was a matter of me putting in too much oil in a few weeks ago.

Took it to the dealer. By visual inspection they thought it might be a seal leak. They said to replace the $40.00 seal, the transmission would need to be removed. This costs a minimum of $600-$700. They wouldn't know exactly if this was the issue until they removed the transmission though.

They essentially blamed the N20 and wouldn't warranty it. Though I'm out of the normal warranty period @ 62K mi., I do have an extended warranty. I don't know if I could get it covered under that. This suxxx.

Has anyone had this happen on the CL? What was your experience?

Well if I'm not mistaken, as this is the case with most Honda engines, the head will have something called a valve cover breather or crank case breather, which will sometimes emit a white smoke. This is the reason people run oil catch cans in F/I setups because there is positive pressure and the PVC system runs off of vacuum, thus creating some white smoke to emit from that little hole in the valve cover. Usually there is a vacuum hose there; maybe it popped off somehow. I do not know if this setup is applicable to the J32, but it is on most Honda engines. I don't know if this helped.

This didn't start until after I got the oil jet kit.

Man, I just know that has something to do with it.
