Engine Revs while in park

I am not sure if this is the right place to put this thread as I am totally new to this forum and barely know anything about cars.

Anyway, yesterday while driving my car I noticed that when my car is in park the engine starts revving like crazy. This also happens when I am stopped at a light. After the engine revs for awhile the car begins to jut forward as if I were pushing the gas, braking, pushing gas, braking, etc. After about twoish minutes the car then stalls. I was driving my car home and at every stop light I had to turn my car off and turn it back on when the adjacent light turned yellow, as not to smash into the car infront of me. Or I would just take a very long time to slow down.

I just failed a state inspection because of my brake pads and power steering rack. Could those be the cause of this? Do I need to check my oil? I know this sounds funny but I tried checking it today but my dipstick in broken so I couldn't seem to find the stick at all. Haha.... I also checked to see if maybe something was caught under the gas peddle, pushing it down but nothing was there.

I know I should bring it to a mechanic but right now I don't have enough money for someone to fix all the things wrong with my car. I am hoping it is something I can get a friend to do or maybe do myself.

My car did that when my CAI filter ripped apart. Once I put a new filter on it all was well.

What happened? Did you find out what was causing the problem? I have a TL and the same thing happened to me yesterday.

Hopefully, it wasn't too expensive. I look forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks!
