engine damper for CLS Interest thead
engine damper for CLS Interest thead
for those of you who dont know i have been agressivly persuing a engine damper kit for our motors. I have seen 02Av6's application and like it however it is limited to people with access to fabrication, etc. not to bad but I want a kit for everyone on the forum. In addition his shock tower mounting location uses the same bolts the factory strut bar uses on a CLS. the purpose of this thread is to inform and to judge who would buy this product if it actualy were produced for say $180 with the bracket, damper and hardware.
at this point I have contacted Weapon-R, Ingalls and, NRG Innovations. all of these companies have damper kits using the same part 02av6 used, ingalls uses, and weapon-r uses. Ingalls does not seem to be ready to do something right away and I have not heard from weapon-r as of yet. NRG innovations is on the west coast and seems to be ready to do something right away. I have spoken with Roth at NRG Innovations and he said he would start working on this right away, today he said. I have sent him many pics via email of the engine bay and factory damper location, mount, etc.. However, someone one the west coast near City of Industry, California will probably need to let them look at your car for a bit. will someone with a 6 speed or even an auto please donate your car. they are going to try to put a kit together that we would have first dibs on in a group buy. the address for NRG is(they are also called ATW);
ATW Inc.
14327 Don Julian Rd.
City of Industry, CA 91746
(626)369-2668 office
(626)369-2669 fax
I sent a letter initialy to NRG Innovations and this is what i got back.
Jim,
Thank you for your great feedback. I will definitely look into it. If
you are willing and are in the west coat, we can use a project test fit
car for this. if not, i will try to prottype it myself and update you.
perhaps you can lead the group buy yourself and we can give you a
surplus deal on your purchase.
thank you
Roth
for those of you who dont know what a damper is the following says it all. I know the description says Ingalls but the dampers we would use are identical.
a engine damper is a self-contained elastomeric shock that mounts on brackets between the engine and the chassis. It reduces extreme engine movement and dampens the motion, providing many benefits. The “Stiffy” was originally intended for the sport compact market, but can be used for some Hot Rod* applications if it is applied correctly.
Benefits:
*Greatly improved off-the-line acceleration
*Ingalls engine damper will provide reduced wheel hop
*Ingalls engine damper will provide improved vehicle stability
*Reduced shock loads on driveline components
*Ingalls engine damper will provide Smoother shifting
*Ingalls engine damper reduced wear on exhaust system joints
*Less vibration transmission to the driver compared to polyurethane motor mounts.
*Less shock load, compared to torque straps and chains.
*Drifting – helps reduce shock loads when wheels gain traction.
*Ingalls engine damper reduces motor movement – decreases the chance of motor parts rubbing against the hood and frame.

jproy - I got your PM. I will give drop Roth an e-mail tonight and follow up with a phone call tomorrow. If all he needs is a car for "measurements" then I would be more than willing.
I have been looking at schematics for 2003 CL and TL It appears that only the CL 6mt comes from the factory with a damper. it actualy has two. one in the back and another in the front of the block. however, check it out Brinalin87. i bet a custom damper coiuld be built to work on both cars.

I think in the end the kit will fit both the AT and MT because bet the easies/best way to do it will be the same as the pics 02Av6 put up, strut tower to power steering pump bolt.
Posted in the other thread already, but I called Roth @ NRG Innovations. He asked me to email him my personal info in which he will go ahead and forward all this to their marketing department. Then from there they will determine whether they can make the product or not in which I can volunteer to be the test vehicle.
I'll keep y'all posted.

I e-mailed Roth @ NRG Innovations this morning but hadn't gotten a response yet.
I'll keep y'all posted.
Tim, if you wanna go ahead and volunteer your car, go for it. I got too much stuff on my plate as it is and would only be available on the weekends.
