Engine cuts off when idle/stopped at a light
A friend of mine has a 2002 CL Type-S. She's having problems with her car when she comes to a stop, the engine turns off. She said that it's fine when she's moving. The engine cuts off often, but not all the time. She's got about 100,000 miles on the car.
I was thinking that she needs a tune-up (new spark plugs, etc.), but I'm not sure. She went to the dealer, and they're recommending a tune-up, and change the timing belt, and of course tried to charge $1500. I think they wanted $400 for the tune-up.
I was wondering if any experts here might know something that I'm overlooking.
Thanks alot for your help.

Bad or dirty IAC valve. Common problem with high miles. Either clean or replace. Search for posts on that.
Tune up interval is 105k miles. And yeah timing belt change is recommended, but I really don't think it's necessary till after 150k my though.

Since you're at 100k, might has well change the plugs if they are the originals. Definitely do this yourself or at least buy a friend some lunch to do it. It takes about 30 min.
I would also clean the IACV. If that doesn't help, you may need to replace. But definitely try to clean it first.
The timing belt is recommended to be replaced around 100k, but it's up to you. A lot of people say it can go longer (as fuzzy stated above). It's more of a cautionary replace because if it does break, you'll be in trouble. I believe it's not unusual for the dealer to charge $800-1000 for the timing belt.
