Engine braking....
Sorry for the dumb question...
But for the 5AT, when you use the sportshift to download and you can feel the engine braking, (or when you let it due it on it's own in D5) what part of the car does that put stress on? The transmission or the engine itself?

Don't do it from a high RPM. I do it sometimes, but once when it's at like 3500 or below.

maybe its different in an auto, but you are supposed to, to some extent, use engine braking with a manual...

Since 1985 I’ve only ever had one clutch that needed to be replaced and that was from a mechanical failure, not wear or abuse.
I’ve had other cars go 80K-90K-110K+ miles so I must be doing something right.

If you rev match and/or heel toe correctly there will be no stress on anything. rev matching preserves your syncros (spell check), clutch, and no tug on the engine which would cause your motor mounts to break. I always heel toe/rev match to help the brakes by using the motor. Also this is the best for dropping down a few gears in order to speed up. (it also sounds great)

Unfortunatley, I'm talking about the automatic transmission. I don't do anything crazy with it, usually never engine break until the revs are really really low, I'll watch out for where i'm @ on the tach next time, but I just wanted to know whether i should be concerned about he engine or the transmission. I don't care about the transmission either, as it's covered under the 100k warranty anyway. Thanks for the help ya'll.

I guess technically i could drop it into neutral, rev slightly higher than where I need it, and gate shift, but c'mon.

sometimes i exit the hwy ramp and have to engine braking....like from 80mph to 35mph then i would pull down from 5th to 3rd
but otherwise i don't do it, i want my tranny last for a very long time
it mostly puts stress on the tranny. the engine can take it just fine. and the 5at is designed so it won't let you downshift at an rpm that would harm the engine.
my theory when racing in ss mode from a roll... pull back the stick until the light blinks.
i love pulling it down into 2nd @ 50 and just romping on it.

i don't leave my car in D5 anymore because i forget and go to shift and put it in neutral. it's happened a few times.

i brake with my transmission all the time.

I don't understand why this keep getting brought up? the braking system is made to stop the car, why not use it? is it that difficult to reach the brake pedal?

K, well, 'nother question to add to it then. Let's say I leave it in D5, or keep it in SS 5th gear, when I do I guess light to moderate breaking, I get a lot of steering wheel vibration unless I do the downshift manually. Is this something to worry about? It's not like, nerve wracking, it's just some slight shaking in the steering wheel. I think I read somewhere that my rotors might be warped?

the best part of my day is when im about to merge and im on the onramp,
rpms are hanging out right before VTEC kicks in in 2nd. and then i WOT into the merge and the VTEC comes right in... i love it. every single time i get onto a highway i wind out all of 2nd gear.
this is in my 5AT btw.

Cause I just got off of warranty, like, 500 miles over 50K.
