people are still gonna race, no matter what. no that this law is in effect, i think more people when faced with losing their car/license and prison time, will take the chance of running. and in most cases, most police chases result in a crash or fatality. i could deal with hefty fines, maybe losing my license for a few months, but if i knew my car was gonna be scrap metal, im' putting the pedal to the metal and gonna try to get the fuck outta there.

Street racing has already really reduced in the LA county area from when I was there this summer. People don't openly race like they do in Dallas and Houston anymore. Most go out to the Riverside/Pomona areas or the desert.

That car though that's wrecked isn't a CL. It's a Pontiac Grand Prix.

Seems like the punishment fits the crime as long as the program is closely watched and they’re SURE of whom they are arresting.

a much better solution would be to turn this into a venue where the state can profit from it, legal track racing, run by the state, shit. sellin water would turn huge profits. the idiots in this state man.. we could have new tracks poppin up everywhere ;] and it would also reduce crime, cause people will be out racing, not stealing shit. who ever thought of this law is a dumbass, and I hope their car is stolen and used to street race, then taken away forever... just wait til they seize some high $$$ cars. maybe we can pick something up for cheap at a local auction

moron, my statement has NOTHING to do with the 2 POS camaros in the news report....i used the term because the GREAT MAJORITY of idiots who do street race are doing so in civics, accords, eclipses and all other IMPORT cars that are riced out to holy hell. ESPECIALLY in southern california where the rice-factor seems to be higher than other cities. way more altezzas, way more lame, unpainted body kits, etc...

try to prove me wrong that in ANY major US city that more than 15% of the cars that street race are american made. the import scene is driving the street racing scene. not POS old camaros and mustangs, gimme a break.

You just gotta find the right spots now out here. The big racers don't waste their times w/ the avg racer that is out around these days. Money races can be found on weeknights w/ decent crowds, a lot of trailored cars though






also, it was only time before this law took affect, they have been impounding cars for up to 2 months at a time for a few years now. I've been out at the races where they literally have impounded 50+ cars and taken 200-300 people to jail

though you're a cranky guy most of the time I'll have to agree with you for once.

they should stop street racing. people should go to the tracks. it IS unsafe. it's a good thing that they're taking these cars however I think a better alternative would be to sell them at profits going to good causes. instead of taking lives maybe some of these cars can be used to save a few.

FYI: if you ever go out to street races you'll realize that the most of the cars out racing in serious races aren't ricers but really beastly cars. The "ricer" scene is very limited since mostly they just go rolling out and run from a red light. They're stupid and run on quite busy roads sometimes. The sting operations and racers tehy're talking about don't include ricers. They'll be going after the organized racing scene with much money involved b/c the'yll probably nab them some criminals while they're at it. Most of the "ricers" are generally students who are otherwise harmless. The serious night time street racers can be quite dodgy individuals.
