Eject / Load on stereo not working

A couple of weeks ago I had my car into the shop to have them fix the remote steering wheel controls for the stereo. They did not use the TSB fix of scoring the copper ring, but actually ran a ground wire... which I think will be a more permanant fix....

But, I now notice that I cannot eject or load new discs. Is this related to the worjk they did? Did they forget to plug something in? It worked fine before.

Any suggestions appreciated.

The TSB method is permanant, Mines be fine for a while.
Do all functions work like they should except eject?
There's nothing that needs to be hooked up. It either works or doesn't. Do you get any error messages on the HU?
The ground wire may be a problem. Can you disconnect it to see if it works?

sounds like the head unit itself, working on the controls should have nothing to do with ejecting/loading a cd. you can try taking it back to the dealer, but they might claim it's an unrelated problem.

What exactly is the problem? Are discs getting stuck? Or is the unit itself not responding at all?

The exact problem is that I can't change discs as they will not eject. So, neither the Load or the Eject button work. Everything else works fine.

And the dopes at the shop pulled out the head unit and "cleaned the contacts". I told them that the problem was in the control switch NOT the HU...

No error messages on the head unit and the steering wheel controls work fine now... I just wonder if the f'ed up someting when the pulled the HU.

Can you unhook that ground they did? Need to elminate that as a problem. Then if the unit still doesn't work, it's a bad HU., or broken button.

I'm just gonna throw this out there...

Did you try to eject a CD and it got stuck? Does it show any errors, or does the button simply just not function at all?

or

Did you by chance try the eject all at once feature by holding in the eject button?

Just a couple of thoughts...

Good suggestion for a process of elimination... only problem is that I have no idea where the ground wire runs to.

Yup... tried this and the buttions do not function at all. The odd thing is that everything else on the HU works fine and there are no error messages. I can't imagine two switches failing simultaneously. It has to be linked to the HU being pulled out and replaced.

Honestly, that wouldn't surprise me. I'd just take the car back to them and say... "hey, it worked just fine till I brought it here..." Geez, I bet business owners hate me!

I think it's that ground cable. Some things don't like being forced into a grond loop. I've seen many things not work. There's nothing that would make it not eject in the back of the HU. There's only 1 plug. Simply taking the head unit out & putting it back in would not have did anything.
Take it back as LH said.

Predictable response from the dealer... "not a related problem". Assholes... I suppose it is just a bloody coincidence that two switches fail just after they do work on the unit.
Options look like a replacement rebuily OEM unit or an after market replacement. Does anyone make a after market unit that will still work with the steering whhel controls?

So an Acura dealer did this? Cause they should have fixed the steering wheel controls the correct way as per the TSB. If they didn't, call Acura service & complain.
And I'd look for that ground cable to unhook it before you go & get a new head unit.
You could post in Black Market for a HU. I've seen them on Ebay also. You can use any 01-03 CL HU.

i've yet to see a head unit that works with the steering wheel controls other than an OEM on of course.

Use the buttons and wire them to something else, you'd be amazed at other stuff you can use those for.

Typical Acura service. I would have raised hell right in front of everyone if they fed me some bullshit like that. That's what it took for me to get them to fix my rotors. I felt bad doint it but they always play the bullshit card with me.
