Edmunds gives the 2002 stereo system in the acura tl(above) an 8 yet the 2001 cl-s only scores a six? Is this not the same exact stereo??

Waitaminute... The review is flawed...

"The speakers add further to the quality of this system. They include a pair of 1-inch dome tweeters in the front doors mated to a pair of 6.5-inch mid-bass drivers below. The rear doors offer a second pair of 6.5-inch speakers, this time configured for full-range sound. The piece de resistance is an 8-inch subwoofer centered along the rear deck."

Tweeters on the TL? I don't think so....

They are certainly looking quite clueless there. I guess that sub woofer in the TL really makes a big difference

 

Ok - I read the rest of the review ... I now have the above stereo comparison in context .... nice that our car is compared to 40-50K cars ...

 

I am sure to the average person, the stereo is fine. Now I have 800 watts worth of amps in my car so....

 

Edmunds is inhabited with complete assholes. You will also fin that most magazines prefer the Tl to the CL, don't ask me why, they are virtually identical. For example, Carpoint, said they didn't like the CL b/c the winshield wipers were slow , however they then turned around and said that the TL "clears thewinshield with a RAPID pace". Unfortuantely for them, the CLs are faster than the TLs. Furthermore, Edmunds rated the TL first when compared to the Bimmer, MB, Volvo S60, etc. etc. However, the CL got last when compared to the Bimmer, CLK, and C70. They are just a bunch of assholes.

 

doesn't the tl have a 9" sub and cl's have two weak ass 6 x 9's. so no, it's really not the same. but they do suck.

 

I have to admit that I'm pretty disappointed with the stereo sound quality. Bass is pretty weak, and while imaging isn't bad, there's just a lack of presence to the overall sound. Seems like they skimped on the speakers, figuring that a flashy in-dash 6CD changer was enough to "sell" they system. Also, the radio reception is pretty bad, and weaker stations get very audible noise when you turn on the rear defroster. Guess that's the price to be paid for the in-glass antenna. Should stuck one of those new trendy roof mounted antennas on if they wanted to leave out the power antenna.
