ECu

I have seen ads on ebay selling an upgrade for our ECU (for TL, CL, and RL). It says it tells the computer it is recieving cold air. Do I need to have a cold air intake to install this? Will it give me the 15-20 hp diffrence it claims over the air intake or what? Plz fill me in.

I'm assuming you are referring to that resistor that some guy is selling. It's crap...don't waste your money. It doesn't work.

There is no real ECU upgrade. Being OBD-II, the ECU is programmable through the diagnostic port.

Actually its NOT programmable through the diagnostic port... although the EEPROM is flashable.

that's not my understanding...the RSX has a flashable ECU but iwas told the cl did not, which is also sorta backed by the fact that my dealer confirmed they are indeed replacing ECU's with failed transmissions on certain vin ranges...and on some the FPR also

I should rephrase that... its PROGRAMMABLE... not flashable... sorry!. The problem is you need replacement maps which are quite difficult to generate!

Ok sorry, wrong terminology!

I read somewhere that the OBD-II standard REQUIRED remote programming from the ECU (via diagnostic port).

You're right though, until somebody actually tunes a CL and get's better fuel maps, there won't be an option. And realistically, the CL is a fairly small market (since that powerplant isn't in a bunch of other vehicles).

it sucks but id say you could get an AEM for a grand as a complete stand alone replacement
