That is the worst looking CLS dynos I've ever seen (Is it an Accord or is it a CL/CLS?)

Can you let us know where that was done so we can never go there.

That is the worst header gain I've ever seen. Did the guy buy the:

1. HAI (Hot Air Intake)
2. Lead pully kit with max-overdrive spin-up feature.
2. Exhaust Restrictor (or banana in the tail pipe)
3. Depleted Uranium wheels

????

------------------
Silver 2001 CL-S with NAVI
  • Mud guards
  • Wheel locks
  • Toyo T1S 235/45ZR17-97W* Proxies on 17x8" SSR Competition wheels (48lbs less than stock)
  • Kevlar/SS Brake lines w/Brembos?
  • Comptech headers & sways
  • Silver AEM CAI
  • 10 coats of Zaino magic

That was the same dyno place I took my car, and had shitty results. Both John, and I will be taking our cars to a different location, and get our cars re-dynoed.

The cat is short for catalytic converter. Random Technology makes one for the Accord, which you can modifiy to fit the CL-S. The results of the Dyno is very suspicious. A cat producing 20HP is quite optimistic. 5 HP is more realistic; although I agree with syncivic that the Type S cat is already a higher flow cat than the CL-P. I would await for Spiroh and John to redyno at a more competent shop than the one they were at.

I finally decided to do some math on this matter. Assuming a VE od 0.90 for our car I came out to having 350 CFM on our engine at redline.

The flow bench tests numbers I was given showed what would come out to be about 6" - 7" HG static pressue on the stock cat. Going by the somewhat accepted 1 HP for every 1" HG reduction in static pressure the max would be 7 HP.

Now assuming that Randoms cat is not going to be perfect but possibly dropping the static pressure by 50% this could very well lead to a 3 - 4 HP gain.

I'm heading back to Calsonic next week and will try to get the flow bench charts. I also hope to get my car back on their sound analysis dyno to see if the headers do make a sound difference...

I gained about 5-6HP. I will redyno, and post the results..then we'll see if the cat is really worth it. To be honest, if I gained 5-6HP, and 5-6Torque throughout the power band, I will be very happy.

It was a standard dyno but we weren't measuring power. They hooked up microphones, among other equipment, all over the car and made several WOT passes while sampling the sound data at 50kHz. The data is below and a quick analysis is as follows. The 1st order is what you hear. The 3rd order is basically the firing of the pistons. The 6th order is the 1st harmonic of the 3rd order.

The interesting part was why they wanted to run my car. I was there doing a catalytic converter heat cycle stress system (cycling the converter between 800 C and 100 C with 150 CFM flow through it, running like this for days and collecting data). When they saw my car they had just been requested by both Honda and Nissan to perform this test on the car. Honda wanted it for their own reference (Calsonic is one of the premier testing and manufacturing facilities for complete OEM exhaust systems) and to have Calsonic start building them.

But the interesting part was the Nissan request. It turns out that they want to mimic the sound of the Type-S in the new Maxima. I was very pleased and nearly laughed when I heard this.

Anyway, data below.

really? is that common for companies to attempt to mimic other company sounds?

Not sure, but probably more common that thought of.
