Dyno Numbers x3 :)

Xenon7, ShawnS, Zapata

We got our cars dynod today.

I don't have the files. SHawnS said he'd forward them to EricL so we can overlay. Anyway, here are my results. I'll post a scan tomorrow. I got 4 runs. Did two runs in 3rd gear and two runs 4th gear. I dynod higher in 4th gear:

3rd: 216/203
3rd: 217/203
4th: 218/207
4th: 220/208

I am completely stock. So my numbers are pretty much on with the others. My poor track performance is now pretty much attributed to SHITTY traction.

Video of this event will be here soon

Xenon7:
Dynod VERY VERY well! He has a automatic.

212/218

He has AEM intake, w/ apexi power stack intake and a few other little mods I'll let him explain.

So uh what does Xenon have that is giving about 10-18 more lb.s of torque then everyone else..
Cuz i know mine was right at 199 for torque.

wow...you guys skipped out on work today to dyno? Nice...

Anyway, why did you dyno in 4th gear. I have NEVER heard of such thing. Is it because you have 6 gears?

And how did xenon7 dyno 212 in an Automatic? He must have headers on top of the Intake. Well...I guess I'll let him explain. When I dynoed my car last spring I pulled a 189whp...this is completely stock w/ nothing...nada...and 5000 miles on the odometer.

You're supposed to dyno the gear closest to 1:1 gear ratio, aren't you?

6speeds are to dyno in 4th gear because it's closer to 1:1 as moomaster has said.

Nope Xenon7 doesn't have headers

Here’s mine.
It’s about 9 higher then when I went there in July last year.

My best run was:
238.6 Horsepower and 208.8 Torque

This is with my 18’s installed.

so Xenon7 has 10 more ft-lbs of torque than Shawn, with an auto, and no headers??
Let's hear it, what other mods does he have??

Shawn S, those numbers are equal to mine N/A, were not a little pissed that it wasnt over 240hp? Also, on the dyno, does it really make much of a difference what tire size your running? Oh, i should be taking mine to the dyno again soon and hope to be around 315whp...who knows, it always seems to be disappointing whenever I go....

Xenon7's high torque reading is undoubtedly just the torque converter lash as he started the dyno run...the real fugure is surely down around the 200 mark...

Everyone always says that big heavy BLINGERS like mine hurt the numbers, but I don’t have proof.
If we would have had more time I was thinking about swapping out the front tires with Xenon or Zapata, but we ate up the entire 2-hours of allotted time swapping cars and hooking up the machine.

Shawn S

PS… Eric, let me know what E-Mail address you want the DYNO files sent to.

Bingo! (Well, until I see a new invention!)

I think there have been a few dyno pictures where the low-end "bump" was "cut-off", and the torque curve from 3k to 7K never got over 200, but the Dynojet graph says 218 (lb-ft) (or something similar).

NO bump, but check the PRINTED VALUE FOR TORQUE vs. the curve shown:

Well, spit it out...as torque is something that is not usually easy to gain especially if you are looking for hp as well.

I explicitly showed only 3000-7000 rpms only... I had the graph starting at 2k rpm and of course would show the 218 lb.ft of TQ... I just dropped that data as not reliable.

I was there at E-Town with Xenon. He ran a 9.4 (1/8th) that day, which was very impressive. We didn't get a chance to line up against eachother but it would have been a good race (I have I/H)

At the time, he had his fog light removed to gather more cold air for his "custom" intake, and he wrapped his headers to help keep his engine bay cool. Not sure if he had anything else, but his car's performance was very impressive nonetheless

This is becoming very entertaining:

Let me stress that there is really nothing special going on here, so everyone calm down, sit back, no real “magic” mods done to the car. Very simple thing’s.

These cars react greatly to temp changes as we all know. Air intake temps are important as welll as "Flow", VTEC timing, air vol. in the plenum, etc.

I believe Steve bleed out most of the big ideas in terms of electrical, port/ polish, THE DIY RES, which proved to have little gain on these motors. I think if anything we have learned much from him and his daring tests.

Tuning and understanding “basics” is key.

Astroboy, TC lash, well it’s possible that some might of taken place. But considering that it was consistent in 5 runs raises questions.

My fastest time to date is 14.7 @ 96mph Englishtown Raceway.

I’m just having fun with the car and not out to fool anyone here on the board.

so, what your saying (without actually saying) is that the coating on your cai is the reason for the torque gain?

Yes, that's what was said...

BTW, its "flash" and not "lash" (the point is clear enough withOUT the “f”). There have been a million and one dynos with the "bump" where the converter "flashes" (pre lockup) during the start of dyno run.

BTW, the e-mail'd data files of the dyno runs were incomplete (damaged?). Shawn is going to check the disk. I had a look at the “raw” data in a hex editor and it looks like only headers are in there -- no run data. Shawn is going to check with the dyno shop to see what happened and see if he can get the "complete" data files...

Shawn, thanks for the time and effort!

Xenon7 no wonder you edged me out in the 1/8 I ran a 9.5 and he ran a 9.4 with his version of an intake. I had AEM with by/pass and 17" SSR GT1 and basslink on with stock tires. Till we meet again ZEnon7

I notied u guys use STD rather than SAE. Most people use SAE and it reads around 10-15rwhp less than STD. Mine did read 325rwhp 338rwtq SAE and around 337rwhp 349rwtq STD. Anyways i just wanted to make it clear. Always use SAE guys since most other people use SAE.

what do they say??? out of 10 cars manufactured, 6 run about the same, 2 run faster, and 2 run slower??? when i had JUST the intake last summer running against Xenon7, he'd consistently beat me, even when i had a jump on him off the line...my best run to date is about a 14.9 with intake, and that's in cold weather too

both terms for the TC "Flash" "Lash" have been thrown around. Keep in mind out TC's are electronically locked "By a Computer ECU" hummmm, which are in question and a big topic
here on the board.

NitroTiger,
I agree there, not every car is exactly the same.

darrinb,
I can't say that the "heat reflect" will help at highway
speed when cooler air is present. It's more for "track" setup when its sitting inline between my runs. Keeps heat buildup
down. I do have a small bypass hole the thermo to aid in this as well.

I just sent an E-Mail off to the shop and I hope they can still pull the data off the machine, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

I also asked him about the SAE vs STD difference.
The printout I have from last year is listed as SAE.

I remember when we got there he was saying that they just got a software upgrade to the machine and it finally had our car listed as a stock pick for the setup.
I don’t know if this has anything to do with it.
I’ll reply back when I get some answers.

Yes all Dyno's should be SAE, & SAE corected. The results you guys got are why.
