Dyno guys..does this work?

I was just watching HorsePower TV and they had a product that works on imports/domestics 96+. has two cables and plugs into your own PDA. THe cost of the hook ups and software was $350, but claims to do a dyno of your engine right there and eliminates the use of a dyno machine.

Any thoughts?

yes, its fairly accurate if it's the one which monitors RPM and you dial in the weight of your vehicle.

Here's the older version of it. I assume this new one uses ODB-II to get the readings instead of the inductive pickup.

Keep in mind you *have* to weigh your car. Can't guess, or these devices are not accurate.

Not that acurate.. data rate of OBD-II is slow, not real time. if you have tire spin what do you do?

Accelerometer based is better.

PDA DYNO
Whether your street machine is an import or domestic, if it’s a 1996 or newer you can dyno the motor right in the palm of your hand. With Noxology’s PDA-DYNO you can measure horsepower, torque, zero to sixty times, fuel economy and drag strip performance. Using their adapter, you just connect your personal organizer into the diagnostic port of your car’s computer, and the information will be displayed on your LCD screen.

For less $$ you can get the G-Tech Pro Competition ($249) It does the same thing based on weight and rpms.
