Dyno - Before and after headers

The shop finally got their printer fixed.
Notice how the headers smoothed out of valleys and added a few peaks.

Mike..............30 hp and 10 ft/lbs torque gain? That's incredible. How's the seat of the pants feeling now? Can't wait to see your new times post headers.

Certainly makes a great argument to buy the headers.

Something fishy iin this DYNO runs!

Why his new headers would be give better performance than that posted by Comptech?

Just a though!

bc01cls, the Dyno confirmed what the butt dyno already knew! Glad I waited a few months before getting the headers in order to appreciate the difference. I'll be satisfied with consistent 5.8s or 5.9s on the gtech. I was going to make some runs this saturday but it's supposed to rain.

Nova, be sure to wait a couple of heating/cooling cycles before you get on it hard. That was the advice from the shop and I took it to heart. You'll love it!

Shawn, if you're considering it I'd recommend them especially if you find yourself in the higher rpm range much of the time!

Thanks Astro! I didn't post it directly because of the modem users. O well.

Nashua, don't know what to tell you. The other runs were very similiar @ 226 & 227hp.

tw1112, sorry man! Buy a CLS as soon as you can afford it!

typeR, I thought you bought your car with the headers?

Excellent results!!

That is a big improvement. It looks impressive. The old torque was rolling off at about 5500, with the new torque curve staying relatively flat till 6200 rpm. The HP improvement looks great. Can you give us a "seat of the pants" review (to add to our existing ones)?

Actually, the curves you got look a bit better than the Comptech curves.

That's it -- I've got to get my car some steroids (Comptech headers). (And I was hoping to just add those big coffee cans to the tail pipes.)

Do let us know what the new GTECH times are.

Hopefully, we won't need you to put an inclinometer in the car to "certify" your GTECH claims. e.g. -- what the exact road grade was; the effect of gravity (on the GTECH accelerometer[cosine/sine of fwd accel vs. gravity, blah, blah]) when the car squats during acceleration; etc, etc, ad nauseum.

(sorry, for that...)

LOL, Eric! Describe it, huh? When I get on it from a standstill I think, "Holy moly this car is fast!" It definitely pushes you back in the seat. Check out http://www.acura-cl.com/movies/driving1.mov and you can hear me punching it a bit.

About the Comptech header graph.

The Comptech graph (from their site [under dyno] shows the stock car getting 208 hp max without the headers (highest hp at any speed).

The Comptech graph shows the headers giving 232 hp max with the headers (highest hp at any speed).

So, 232-208 = 24 hp gain (between max stock and max Comptech)

If you compare the max gain at any given speed, there is a gain of 32 hp @ 6600 rpm. (stock = 199, headers 231, for a MAX gain of 32 hp @ 6600 rpm.

See url (you need Adobe Acrobat):

http://www.comptechusa.com/images/dyno/2000CLSplot.pdf

In any event, dynos don't lie, and that is a lot of juice without wasting fuel. The headers are just moving the air better.

BTW Mike, I see the movie track you posted was 2001 BF ("before" headers). (I just clicked on the link *and* played the "tune" to my wife). Now, we need the "after" headers movie (2001 AF)! You are making about 300hp at the flywheel dude!

Oh, yes, It shall be mine... It shall be mine. Every time my wife hears that roar, she goes, "This car sounds so great". Can't wait to get some headers.

What I am impressed with is the gains below 4k. I expected benefits up high as shown by Comptech, but this is even better.

~15 lb/ft gain around 3000...

What RPM did they start at and I assume they made the run in 3rd gear??

Mike,

Just add a couple of coffee cans and you will add another 100hp (I assume since each is worth 50hp - and you would need two!)

Cool!

What is interesting to me is that the headers give more power from the beginning of this graph which starts measuring HP/Torque from 3000 rpm. That is very interesting. From memory, from the Comptech table/graph I thought that power gains were realized only above 5K rpm.

And it gets even more interesting to see that there are no spikes of any kind. Amazing.

If headers are giving this kind of power all around the rpm range then this is even more of a compeling reason to install them. I am super-impressed by this. Good job Mike.

Observations:

1) Mike's Dyno before-Headers is below Copmptech's Reference Stock.

2) Mike's Dyno After-Headers is same as Copmptech's Reference Stock.

He is getting the max boost that the headers would give!

Yeah...that's pretty good...30 HP at the wheel no less!!!! Man, I can't wait to get up to Sears Point when they open up! I wanna run my car with the intake and then slap on the headers. Headers always give power throughout the powerband...hotrodders have known this forever.
