Reseting the ECU should b done approx. 100 miles on the car after the upgrade and before the Dyno. If you reset while at the dyno your fuel mappings etc.. will not be in an optimal callibration and will actually give you lower readings then you would see if the car has a chance to adjust. If these runs were done with an ECU reset at the Dyno you should expect them to be a bit better with a proper ECU learning cycle ! Great results BTW ! Its also great to see everyone posting the cold facts too !

There are a lot of variables to take into consideration when comparing Dyno results for the same model vehicle. Some of which include Temperature, Humidity, Elevation above sea-level, barometric pressure, tire inflation, etc.... It is really difficult to compare unless there is a gaping and huge difference in the results. Even the same car on different day may show +/- 5-10 HP depending on the conditions. The only thing that seems a little odd is that the Dyno above show STD Horsepower(old correction standard rather then SAE Horsepower new accepted correction standard. Not that it is a big issue but generally STD corrected values yield better performance results the SAE correction. I believe the NHRA has deemed SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) the industry accepted standard correction. But with so many extenuating circumstances when you Dyno test a car (Even the Dyno model) takes a toll on the event.... bear in mind folks Dyno tests are more to determine max. stock output at the crank by manufacturers and overall performance gains at the wheels by enthusiasts once a stock baseline Dyno is accepted. I think the results shown above are great and are right in the tolerences accepted by all of us .. that being 198HP at the wheels all stock ... and approx 28-30 HP increase with headers. So the figures ranging from 225-230HP are more the respectable numbers ! Withregard to the addition of the intake and not being able to see an extra 10HP in the dyno... well my own experience can attest that w/o a true simulation of airflow (the way it would flow if you were driving) the results and numbers are difficult to show. Additionally, it is not always the case that all mods result in a serial HP increase ... Stock 198 + Headers 30 + CAI 10 will not necessarily yield 238HP at the weels unless all details and operating variations are optimal... Only way to really be able to get decent reproducable numbers is with the same car, same driver, same configuration at the same track on identical track conditions... Pretty tough to get all them aligned All in all, Dyno's are great, 1/4 mile slips are better, but the bottom line how the car feels and performs on a day to day basis for you ... and if you are pleased with it

Nova:

I cant speak for JSuppi/WebToker but I believe that all four runs were with headers and AEM CAI.

Calvin,
Thanks for postng that; too clear up the confusion. The top graph is the combination of the runs before the CAI was installed (blue graph), in this configuration it was only Comptech headers & Comptech filter. The red graph is the CAI installed w/ the Comptech headers. There is basically a +5hp throughout the whole range, and from what I can tell the torque increased throughout the band as well (didn't drop at any point that I can see).

The bottom dyno graph is basically the two best runs before the CAI was installed (headers and Comptech filter only). I was pretty satisfied with the results.

JSuppi:

Great results ! Do you recall what the temp. was approximately during the tests? Also did they have a decent fan on your car to try and keep it cool and maintain airflow? If they did not have a decent fan, your results may be lower then they can be optimally with good airflow and temp Great info ! Nice runs too !

Chris,
They had some jumbo fans blowing on the sucker when I watched the first Dyno session, I was busy the second dyno session so didn't see what they did that one.

Temperature was mid to upper 70's, and of course you've got the Houston humidity coming into play as well.

Man, I envy you guys who have headers for your car. Truthfully though, do you guys think the headers are the single best modificationn you can do to the engine? I mean for the basic bolt ons, not engine work.
