Drove a IS300
my cousin got married and moved to chi town so when i was chillen at my cousins house we went for a ride in the IS...
god damn that son of a bitch sticks to the ground like no other car i have driven, i was hittin corners at like 40-45 mph
i think it out handles the 330 vert and g35c i've driven
my springs go on thursday and maybe if i get some sways it will handle like the IS(prolly gonna have to replace the stock tires though)
i would never take it over my car though..
-way under powered
-too small
-it felt like i was driving a toy car cause the cluster and guages were soo weird

right, and the CL is such a very manly, muscular car
u guys will tell urself anything to feel better about ur car
IS300 is already a much more solid car then our boat... add in more power and its leave the CL behind in nearly everything.

my wife works for corporate toyota, and she leased an IS 300 for a year. it was an ok car, handling was ok (suspension felt soft...too much body roll for a "sports sedan"), power was average...i actually like the physical attributes more than anything else about the car. but, i found much more enjoyment and driving satisfaction in my 99 legacy 2.5GT. can't really compare the IS w/a CL though.

CL and IS are two different types of car, although they are both classified as near-luxury cars. But as far as handling, the smaller the better, IS300 is 15.4" shorter than CL, so there is no way CL can out-handle IS. If you want a super-good-handling-vehicle, don't buy anything longer than 180", look at all the good handling cars' lengths:
Porsche 911 hardtop: 174.5"
Mini Cooper S: 142.8"
Lexus IS300: 176.6"
BMW 3-series sedan: 176"
BMW 3-series coupe: 176.7"
Mazda Miata: 155.7"
Honda S2000: 162.2"
Acura NSX: 174.2"
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution: 177.6"
Acura 3.2CL TYPE S: 192"

Edit- I'll clarify. There are lots of measurements, lot of tests. There is more to handling than just length. FWD and weight distribution don't help the CLS. The front double-wishbone and multi-link rear are beneficial.

a CL-S with every suspension mod there is will never handle as well as a stock IS300....period...
theres this little thing called balance and weight distribution....the IS has it, the CL does not.

Length and wheelbase are a deciding factor in a slalom but not necessarily on the track.
The IS300 doesn't have an exact Acura analogue. It fits somewhere in between the TLS and TSX but with RWD it is a true sports sedan.
Now if they make an IS430 that would be something else!

I'm glad to see people evaluating this car as something other than a twin to the CLS! It really irks me when I read here how people love the IS300 or the new G35 and they make a direct comparison to the CLS. I know I'm a geek by trade (I work with numbers and research) but when you make a comparison like this you can't make a fair comparison on two things unless they are truly equal. Otherwise it's like that cliche of "comparing apples and oranges."
the IS and G35 are smaller, narrower, and lighter than the CLS and hey are both rear wheel drive while the CLS is front-wheel drive. So they are going to have different ride characteristics from that alone. More appropriately tuned suspension components are only going to further exemplify the difference.

I went to the acura dealer looking for a CL-S. Test drove it. Pretty nice. then I saw a used IS300. Asked to test drive it. After that i was sold. I wanted to get the IS300 over a CL-s that I have been wanting for awhile. The handling of the IS300 made up for the lack of features and power. The CL is nice but its all about driving pleasure and the IS300 delievers. Its so small and easy to drive. I got the CL cuz it was cheaper in the end. About $1500 less in my case. I'm happy with my CL though. It has so many features to play with, faster in a straight line, and gets better gas mileage.
