Drove a 6spd CLS this past weekend...my comments
Like many others here...I've been dying for the 6spd since I bought my 01 CLS. This past weekend I got the chance to take one out w/o the dealer. Apparently the dealers here in CT are more friendly then the POS ones I dealt with in SoCal. Go figure.
Anyway, it's only my opinion, but here it is:
Loves:
New headlights, tailights, grill. I actually liked the rims too, I think they would be perfect in a 5 spoke pattern instead though. I can even live with the black door handles.
Of course, the 6spd. Shifted nicely...looks great in the front of the BOSE stereo. Performance...the response is definitely quicker, but the CLS is still more luxury than performance. It does increase the fun factor...
Now, the HATES:
The two things that they changed on this car that just killed me were the cup holders and the heated seat buttons.
It's bad enough that I'd be losing my 2 settings, but then they replaced the nice designed buttons with these two-bit buttons that look like they were taken from an 84 civic and repainted. The luvers for the cup holder look like something from a Lego model and the cupholder's design itself looks like crap. So you either keep the luvers closed...and look at the rubber while it gets dirt stuck in it or you look at the choppy cupholders. I don't understand why they could design something like the 96-97 accords have, the smooth plastic cover that pops open.
It just seems to me that they put no effort into redesigning that part of the car...which in turn makes me question if I want to roll over my current 3.5 year loan to another 5 years for the 6spd. It's probably not going to happen.
Conclusion...if this was the first year of the CLS...I'd buy the 6spd...but I ain't starting over...
ps...my rear window has started rattling too...

well the 6 speed is definately more fun, but my car is not driven that much, most of my milage is in town, i did like shifting my IROC and mustang GT, but its nice to just put it in gear and go, maybe when the lease is up i'll consider the 6 speed, who knows, fun to drive but don't know if i want to shift for 3 years?
