well the reason why it seems like last years off the bottom end is because MB restricts the engine output with their ecu because all that torque on a very short gear such as 1st gear would just rip all the motor mounts off of that car...so output is restricted in 1st gear on that car...

Awesome car, but now that the SL is out....it's killing CL sales.
My oldman just picked up an E500, and is ordering an SL500 for Spring 04. I asked about the CL's residual in comparison (curious), its being getting hammered since the SL came out. Also, the CL has been out since 2000 which is also contributing to the dropping resale.
The dealer won't write an SL55 factory order for less than $25k over sticker, they have one available now for $150k....crazy.

i'd call MBZ NA, dealers shouldn't be marking up prices on ordered cars. They should only be marking up prices on cars that they purchased and have. You shouldn't be paying a markup and waiting 6 months to a year for the car. Atleast that's how most BMW dealerships worked on the m cars.

The only dealers that can't charge over MSRP are factory stores (like MB of Manhattan).
Quick story, a good friend of one of the higher ups at MB got him an SL55 at MB of Manhattan for MSRP......the guy that same week he picked up the car went to a dealer on Long Island and flipped it for $25k more than he paid. They found it was the second time he did this, the first time involved a CL when it first came out.

damn
imagine what a downpipe, intake and chip will do to this car![Naughty](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/naughty.gif)
I read that the new 600s have same engine and tranny as the maybach albeit detuned though...however, i'm pretty sure if thats the case then making the extra hp won't be a problem

Overall, MB benz cars were never that elusive, no matter how expensive a model is or was......I see them around.

a few family friends have ordered M cars and they were able to get them all at MSRP as long as they ordered the cars and didn't try to buy what was laying on the dealers lots. They were all bought from different dealers. And talking to an MBZ dealer about the SL's w/ my father we were told there'd be no mark up if you ordered the car. Guess you just gotta find the right dealers.

Most dealers will write an SL500 on a factory order for MSRP- never said they wouldn't. The earliest incoming car at MSRP (not a factory order) that I was able to find was set to come in during July. I'm sure there are some dealers in the country, who have them in stock for MSRP. But the situation is still a bit sticky in certain areas.
What you will "not" find (as I mentioned earlier) is an SL55 for MSRP........in stock or on a factory order. The car is still too hot and in demand.

these were all in the first batch's that came. You can find them below MSRP almost all over now.
I hear what you are saying. Maybe in a month or so the SL55's will be able to be factory ordered at below msrp. I bet you can still find some dealers out there that'll let you order at MSRP, but most will probally not.

it goes like this: MSRP =$xxxxxx, DEALERS MAY sell for LESS!
At least that's the fine print on every Canadian ad
.
I know this for a FACT because, every Mercedes dealer in the Toronto Area, for the LONGEST TIME has been willing to either sell at MSRP or $500 below MSRP.
I know this because my parents wanted to acquire a nicely equipped 4dr Benz that doesn't come with All-wheel drive until 2003 and well, this flagship sedan they liked and heck even the C-Class are discounted by $500.
I'm so sorry if the case in the USA is any different. I want to live in the States but am saddened by things like this.

Many dealers appear to still be charging premiums on some AMG cars......SL55 is the most desirable currently.
The dealers I checked with on LI, will not write one for MSRP on a factory order.

If you did, then the cars are coming out of NJ here transported to a MB Event. or Press Fleet Account there in the City. All MB Vehicles are stored here in NJ for MB and the shipped to wherever for North East Region for Press Events. or a MB Sponsored Event. I've been to the warehouse a few times. Lots of the newest cars shipped directly from Germany, some of the cars are still set for German.

The one think i like about the car isn't too gaudy. You can get away with driving it and people wont be able to pick ur car out easily and key it.

Possible,

They are doing a big show for the *55 AMG models.

Y'know, I live in Bflo area and w/ the Free Trade Agreement I should be able to drive across the border to buy a car. I think the problem wld be registering it b/c I would pay sales tax in Canada, and to register it, I would pay tax again on the sales price since NYS in its infinitely greedy scheme of things, wld wanna piece of the action!! In the long run, I would end up paying more perhaps
