It's ranked right up their with upgrading your muffler bearings. Which does yield another 5whp

ok, go search it on maxima.org, so many people do it on theirs, my brothers done it on his, you disconet a wire from resistor, u really never heard of it, it makes ur trans shift harder and is acutally better for your engine

BS!!!

There are ways to alter the control for the transmission line pressure but normally are more involved than a resistor. The line pressure control solenoid is duty cycle controlled in nearly every vehicle I have messed with and should not be different with a Nissan. A simple resistor does not alter a duty cycle signal for the better.

Additionally, this would not mess with the engine at all or be beneficial for it.

It is simply a myth which is continued by the ignorant masses.

I would categorize this mode like I would the grounding kit upgrades for hp gains - completely bogus.

dont forget to check the vacuum on the disgromulator. That should yield a net gain of about 5.4 whp.

Read all of it. You are all knocking the idea, how about read up on it before you pass it off as an "ebay" bs mod. Why would the owner(a very respectable member) of a 12.1 sec maxima, who is in October's Modified Mag do this mod if it wasn't helping him. Many auto maxima owners use this mod, with all the same results, quicker shifts. If you don't believe then try it. That is all it takes to seperate the bs from fact.

I'm not 100% sure how I found this thread, but the drop resistor mod is very real. Unplugging one sensor makes my auto shift like it has a shift kit. Using the drop resistor mod dropped my ¼ mile time by 3 tenths of a second on back to back runs.

Whether it's true/worth it/whatever is one thing, but I what I can tell you is that "Don't ever pick up a copy of Modified Mag" Look at that POS Maxima. The seats are junk, the NOS is bolted to the passenger floor, he has a Palm pilot glued to the drivers airbag....that thing is a piece of sh!t.

Who cares if it is a 12.1 sec car, it's dirty and horrid looking. I can't believe any magazine put that in there.

As I posted earlier, this, if true, would be about altering the line pressure. Which after reading the link, it is about line pressure. However, this is unrelated to the engine as presented; it is about the transaxle.

Additionally, there is no such thing for the CL-S automatic as the line pressure is controlled by a duty cycle controlled solenoid valve. Obviously Nissan does something different and unusual.

Running higher line pressure can reduce ET's, but also causes rougher shifts. It is a trade off between comfort and performance.

Its not just that maxima who has done the mod, it could be your car thats 3 tenths of a second faster and just by a simple mod, this is very real, in the next week im going to look for it with some friends i know with a rack, the people ive talked to(people who know their stuff) said i have to take the pan off the trans. to get to the resitor, it has two wires, ill take the wire and hook it to a switch to the console in the car so i can have access to it when i need to disengadge the resistor, ill have the full instructions when the mod is done, and to all the people who thought this was BS, you all need to read up on a few thinks before blowin this off, ill keep you all posted

Re-read my post and you might begin to understand that it is irrelevant here. The information presented is completely incoherent and as such I would suggest that you leave the transmission oil pan in place.

Just FYI, any potential electrical modifications to alter the line pressure would not require removing the transmission oil pan. Anyone who is the slightest bit familiar with this transaxle would know this. Do you or these people understand what a duty cycle control signal is, let alone a resistor??

Myself and many others here have been through the electrical schematics numerous times and know the line pressure control system very well. For someone who comes across as limited in this area I doubt you can bring something new to the table. Would you like to see the schematic before delving into an area you are not familiar with??

You desire to gain something which may have yielded benefits on another vehicle is admirable. But you should also yield to some who know more about this vehicle than the average mechanic with a lift.

About gaining 3 tenths, it could be possible in certain situations. Considering the original vehicle had a 4-speed automatic in which only one shift, maybe two, during a ¼ mile makes it difficult to believe. That is unless the 4-speed auto in the Maxima was the sloppiest on the shifts, which it could be. But to add at best, 0.15 seconds to a shift is a horrendous delay.

But in the end this is still irrelevant to the CL as it has a different line pressure control system. Your suggestion would be similar to say that modifying the MAF on the CL makes it faster, when in fact there is no MAF on the CL.
