I like driving in D4 so much better. Now I only use D5 on the highway. No more annoying shifting

The resson to use D1-D2-D3 is to redline 1st as the SS or D5 does not redline in 1st!

This gate shifting is only good for 1/4 mile runs. Use SS on the HW if you want to go from D2-D5!!!

if u know how to drive SS, u can still get some decent pull in 5th gear...go 3/4 throttle through all gears, but keep shifting at 3K...when u reach 5th, u'll get the pull...not much, but u'll still get it (u're tricking the engine into using the Grade Logic Control, which is like a little extra boost of power...call it a micro version of NOS )

Your car must be busted. If I keep my foot in it, it will redline in 1st and 2nd in D3, D4, D5 or SS. I've never tried to redline 3rd since I want to keep my license.

Mine redline in 1st also in SS and D1 if I floor it, i love the feeling when i step on gas a little to let it shifts to 2nd, then i floor it and it drops back to 1st, that kick back is veryyyyyyyyyy nice.

I also use D4 all the time, or SS. I only use D5 on the HW. My milage hasn't changed alot. I get about 250 miles on a tank. I get that all the time. The only times I get better is straight HW driving.

I'm in SS all the time... I like having the control of the gears. Certainly, it's no manny tranny, but it works for me.

You are wrong! a lot of CLS drag racers, including myself, observed that in D4 or D5 or SS or any gear other than D1, it would shift 1-2 at 6500 rpm not at 6900!

Some else can confirm this?

YOUR CORRECT SIR! The way the cars shifts one may think it's shifting at redline but, IT'S NOT! I tried the gate shifting thing this morning behind my neighborhood on my way to work. I was showing my cousin the difference between SS and gate shifting and even HE was impressed. Gate shfiting along with WOTing in 1st brings the car to redline and further. SS brought me to around 6300-6500 tops. I just tried it around 8:00 this morning! :P

I have been driving in D4 since I got the car. The only time I up shift to 5 is when I am going over 70.

I agree... Car won't readline in D5, comes close in SS, but not quite there... Gate shifting is a must when racing

I have never tried driving in D4, what are the advantages/disadvanteges??

After over 10 runs or so at the 1/4 mile track here in houston, my best times were just leaving it in D3.

I hate you guys and your peer pressure. Since I filled up yesterday morning I've driven 200 miles, 85% of it in D4. We'll see how the gas mileage does next fill up (tomorrow).

R is the only non-SS gear I use. I went back and forth a few times but finally decided to stick with SS. Don't want to get lazy while I'm waiting for my 6 speed.

Yeah, it sux, it falls below vtec if you aren't in D1, i dont use it but you can hold it out longer to land at 5k on the 1-2 shift...........damn i thought i would never have this same problem as i did on my 6spd GTS!

Strange as this might sound, but you want to get into fat part of the torque curve. On the stock car (with auto tranny), the torque falls off from 5K up, so unless you have headers, you might actually go slower. (The torque curve IS the acceleration curve [with some caveats])

With the headers, the torque peak is around 6+K, so doing as you suggest is worth it.

What???

Why would someone want to confuse their car into making it go fast? LOL

That'd be a good idea if "Grade Logic" did anything in SS, but it doesn't.... A micro version of NOS?? what magic can "Grade Logic" pull???

All it's useful for is cruise control and D3/D4/D5 so it can downshift to a lower gear even when you're going up or down steep hills. All it does is sense that a car's not pulling up a hill, and downshift to prevent gear hunting, and downshift when going down a steep hill to prevent riding your brakes. Does nothing in SS.

first of all, the "micro version of NOS" was a joke, hence the

next, Grade Logic DOES work in SS...don't believe me??? next time u're in 5th, put the foot to the floor and PAY ATTENTION to what happens, hence u're tricking the grade logic into THINKING u're going up a hill...i can pass just fine in 5th gear...know y?? b/c the grade logic AUTOMATICALLY downshifts to provide more power, even tho u see "5" on the dash.

I noticed that in D5.... When I am going uphill, I will get a sudden un-lokcing of the torque converter, rpms jumps where the D4 should be.... How do I know, I switch to SS and see that I am still in 5th!!!!

Sound sutpid for me to just unlock the torque converter instead of downshifting... But this is what "Grade logic" does.. it will unlock the torque converter first giving a "torque multiplcation factor" rater than downshifting... It could a better and more efficent way than down shifting....

Is is this your "micro NOS"?

I drive it as hard if not harder after the tranny replacement. If I back off Acura WINS! Gotta be me. Personally, don't believe driving habits have anything to do with tranny failure. Love D4.
