Driver's Seat Motor Problems
Driver's Seat Motor Problems
All,
I have a 2001 CL-S. The motor controlling the driver's seat works for just a second or two before cutting out. When I push the lever to move the seat back, for instance, it goes back for one second and then stops. I push the lever again, and it inches backwards again, but only for a second. Another push, it moves again. It takes 5-6 tries before I get the seat all the way to the back -- same goes for pulling the lever to the front, or tilting the seat, etc.
It's super annoying because I cannot use my preprogrammed seat positions for my wife and I. Moreover, the passenger's side works just fine.
Any ideas/suggestions? I'd really like to get this taken care of.
Thank you,
-Elliot

Good question -- No, I do not hear the motor moving when the seat stops.

I think the problem seems to be the motor is cutting off. It may need to be replaced.
He said the passanger's is fine.

What must I do to get the motor replaced? I assume the dealership would charge me a fortune.. What's it like to replace myself? Any instructions? Anything helpful is appreciated.
Thanks,

There are 3 seat motors, controlled by a MSC computer under that seat. If you choose to change the slide motor first, you need to disconnect battery and then remove 4 seat bolts. Before taking out seat unplug large wire connector and yellow connector under seat. To get access to slide motor you need to disassemble several sections of the seat base, the motor is attached by 2 10 mm bolts. Unfortunately it may not be your motor and spending 90+ dollars on the special order motor and 1-2 hours laboring with your seat may not be the answer.
My advice take it and have it looked at, if its the seat memory computer (costly) or something simple the Acura people are your best bet.
Also when you remove the seat your SRS light will come on and you will need to reset that too.

From: where the weather suits my clothes
Do the simple things first:
1 - check all the plugs and connections
2 - make sure the seat tracks are clean and free of debris
If it were me, I would:
1 - disconnect battery
2 - disconnect plugs from seat
3 - remove seat
4 - make a set of jumpers (cheap set of alligator clips with long wires)
5 - with the seat out of the car, connect the jumpers from the seat to the plugs still in the car
6 - plug battery back in
7 - test seat - makes it easy to flip it over to see what's happening.
