Driver side axle length please

Anyone have an axle lying around they can measure for me? I replaced my passenger side a few months ago.

The vibration is coming back so I ordered a driver side axle and it seems to be the same length.

I called Rock Auto and they don't know what the length should be. Seems to me they can't be the same length or they would not be side specific.

Thanks

This indicates they are the same size, why are they side specific if they are the same?

I always read that they had equal length half shafts. It helped to reduce torque steer.

Is it possible the connection into the tranny is slightly different for left and right?

My 93 Integra had very slighly different length half shafts. This was a manual tranny. I know cause the Firestone dealer that replaced them F'ed up and put them in backwards and destroyed the transmission.

Ive yet to replace the axles on this car, but we do have equal length axles and and intermediate shaft. They should both have male ends on them.

I had one of my axles replaced under warranty and it took Acura longer than usually because they got the driver side part instead of the passenger side. So I am fairly certain there has to be a difference, must be subtle though because they didn't realize it until they were about to install the new part.

I got under there and compared them side to side, I'll be damned if I see a difference, I did notice the replacement on the passenger side did not have the rubber "balancer" in the middle and neither does this new one, I moved the axle I was going to replace around and there is no play at all so I thought maybe the lack of the "balancer" in the middle was causing the vibration so I killed myself removing the mother*ucker, that thing is made of some serious steel & harder than hell to cut off, I used a reciprocating saw and it took well over 20 minutes.

This is the bad passenger side axle.

The vibration is gone so if you replace an axle and still have vibration this may be why.

Aside from the "balancer", how long did it take you to swap it out and how bad was it?

I have a vibration only at 60MPH and it seems like its there ONLY at 60MPH it seems to have started when they replaced the transmission , so I thought it had something to do with the tranny , BUT now I'm thinking it might be a axel..

If u have a bad axel would it be at all speeds or only at certain speeds?

I did not change the axle, there was no clicking and there was no play in the axle at all.

The vibration was under acceleration at any speed getting worse as speed increased, disappearing at about 60mph.

All vibration is gone just from removing the "balancer" and making the OEM axle "like" the aftermarket replacement axle that was replaced when it went bad months ago.

I am saving the new axle for when this one fails, hopefully far in the future.

dont know about the rain part, but ur tires need to be balanced if they vibrate at that speed.

I thought it was rubber and would come right off, it was more work than R&Ring the axle.

I am glad now I did it because I get more use out of the original axle but if I knew how hard it would be getting it off I'd have just done the whole axle.

My car vibrates / shudders only at like 60MPH and only when holding the gas at 60MPH..
Today i tried everything at 70 no shudder at 80 no shudder when acceleration no shudder an any speeds at 50 no shudder just when holding 60mph it feels like my tranny is slipping but im pretty sure its not the tranny, can the axel cuz this?
My tires are fairly new and if it was the tires/bent rims i would think it would happen all the time not just at one speed!

e30 -My mechanic replaced the passenger side axle (since it had excessive play in it) and put a new one in. It still has vibration, your saying that is attributed to the rubber balancer and it should be removed?

So you removed the rubber balancer on your existing installed axle?

Yes that is exactly what happened. I had vibration mild slower, worse as speed increased on throttle at all speeds, replaced the passenger side which had play 85% of teh vibration went away, almost all off throttle but very mild on throttle.

I ordered the axle, got under the car to replace the driver side, noticed the new one did not have the rubber "balancer" and since it looked like rubber that I could cut off in a second I decided to remove it.

I found it had metal under the rubber and fought it for probably longer than the r&r would have taken but the vibration is gone.
