Drag race in elgin, il
Hi there everyone i am just going to throw this out there to see if it was a fella aziner. about a month ago in elgin, il on route 31 and lake st heading east i ran into a 6spd type s wdp just like mine but mines auto. anyways a couple of young guys pulled up to me in the same car and asked me if i wanna run it. and of course being a hard core drag racer at heart i could not refuse. plus this gave me an opportunity to run against a 6spd. ive been dying to run one just to see where im at. anyways we started around 30 mph in 2nd gear and we went all the way to about a 100 mph i looked back and he was about 3 cars behind. wow was i impressed. so was he cause afterwards hes like u got full exhaust on that thing. lol. ya and some more. i finally got my chance and i grinned all the way home. so im planning on getting nitto drag radials and im going to strip. maybe byron or great lakes. any ideas of where i should be at from any personal experiences.

A hard core drag racer getting excited about a FWD 5at 15 second car? Sorry, just had to. I've played around in my TL before but I never take it serious. I've wanted to see how badly mine would get beat by a 6mt but never had the chance. I raced one 5at and we were dead even but I manually shifted from 3rd into 4th and put 2 cars at that moment and held it. Not exciting by any means but it was neat to see the difference holding that gear just a second longer makes.

I'm assuming you were driving solo? You said there were passengers in the 6MT, correct? If so, that could be part of the issue here. I still wouldn't imagine it'd be 3 cars behind, unless of course driver error. But nice kill.
As far as the track, mid to low 14s is a safe bet. Traps between 98-99 I'd assume. You may touch 100 under perfect conditions.

I only bash people when they talk of weaving in and out of traffic and in heavily populated areas. Or when drag racing is their lives and they drive a TL lol.
I've been known to street race a time or two lol. When I was growing up, this was a small town and there were plenty of times it was just you and another car on a 3 lane road with nothing and no one to hit. Even my last race ever was two 10 second cars battling it out on the street, mine and a Corvette ZR1. We left an intersection with cars but for a mile in front of us it was open road, no side streets and no cars. It comes down to knowing when to use the power and when not to. I play it very conservative.

I hope the OP took the necessary precautions. I've seen a few people first hand racing through traffic and it's retarded. It suits no purpose whatsoever who can "cut traffic" better. No one cares. It's completely useless.
There is a time where I feel it is safe to do a run. If there are no other cars in sight, or you have a long stretch of road with no cars on it. If the conditions are safe, it's not too crazy. I am very cautious, but have been known to be stupid (I can count the number of times on much less than one hand), but never again. It puts not only you and any passengers in danger, but EVERY other car on the road. Stupid.
