Downshift

Is it just me or does the 6-speed not like to downshift? I am refering mostly to highway speeds. What does it tach up to when you are doing 75 and drop it into 3rd? I've thrown it onto 4th @ 80mph, maybe that's why I'm not pulling as far ahead of comparable cars as I should be. Maybe I just got a higher interest rate than most of you. :P I'll probably try it once I get back in the states, I'm in Kuwait for a year w/out my car.

mine likes to downshift just fine, but you should pull 3rd up to just over 90mph to get the nice portion of the powerband, that will run you right up to about fuel cutoff

Yea, about 85-87 is redline, then cutoff comes around 90 or so. Then just throw it into 4th and go to 120, 5th to 140 and 6th takes you somewhere, probably the speed limited number, whatever that is.

Re: Downshift

yer in kuwait posting?@#%@ in the services? 80mph you CAN shift into 3rd but you are going to be reving at like 5kRPM.....not much juice left at that point unless you have headers etc., I guess CLs that are lightly modified with a CAI just leaving it in 4th would be better and those with heavy mods like headers/turbo/s-c dropping into 3rd could provide alittle more kick than 4th.

I agree, 4th gear although providing more pull than 4th gear in the auto ever did sometimes doesn't provide the juice to get with comparable cars. Again....i only have a cai so.....

That makes sense....Any idea what the 5 speed would do...minus the speed-limiter? Because 147 in 4th is pretty nice....

er didn't type correctly......6kRPM will be 3rd gear at about 80mph if i'm not mistaken. At 6k there is still some juice left but not a whole heck of alot. It really depends on the other car. If they have plenty powerband left then it's better to stay in 4th.

In my 6speed i can take 3rd gear all the way to 93.... but it does not make anymore horspower after 90 it feels like... Not sure how far I can run 4th.... but I can run 5th gear to 141... I have take the car to 147 that was the fastest, it was at 5400 or 5500 rpm's
