I know im a little late, but to be specific, I called CT Engineering once about the B-Pipe and they told me that when Comptech changed over to CT Engineering, CT decided to not sell it because they did a test with and without the B-Pipe and found that there was no HP gain with it.

ah damn so if i have the xlr8 high flow cat i dont need the test pipe? ill have to return it when it arrives if that is the case. Wish i knew more about exhaust.

This is our exhaust:

If you want a complete 2.5" exhaust then you'll have to upgrade all the piping to 2.5". Our stock exhaust is 2.25".

yea man the cat is right after the headers. and a test pipe replaces the cat. So emissions is bad and exhaust will stink. and u will not have enough backpressure if ur N/a on the tq side most likely.

Test pipes are meant for when you track the car, there is no loss from it, its just basically removing the cat.

Hell I know when I was in Japan for a little bit we never ran with cats on our track cars, it was a waste of time trying to tune with it on there and what not, so we just welded up a solid piece of pipe with flanges was GG after that.

I'm getting a 3" catback installed this Saturday so I'll let you know what the butt dyno says. Also, 3 inch on N/A works fine on RSX K20As with bolt ons so why not a motor that is 30% larger. The highest WHP 3.2 CL has a 3 inch exhaust as well. I hope to get on the dyno at some point in early '10 after my 105k service.

If you ain't boosted 3" exhaust is pointless. From what I have read and heard you actually lose power rather than gain.

Will do, I dont have a baseline dyno but based on other bolt on CLS6's, we should be able to derive any major differences. If they have a dyno at the shop I am getting the exhaust swapped at, I might consider a before and after to put the issue to rest.

3'' exhaust on a N/A motor is overkill and a waste of money and performance wise. but hey knock yourself out. unless maybe you got a 3.5 swap.

I was poking around and found an interesting article on exhaust theory by Dinan. Feel free to check it out.

I want to get the last few HP out of my car, so when i hit the track next year it's GOOD results.

and should I do the XLR8 cat also or what.?

shoot me ur advice... i got a few months to ponder this.

I think I may buy the exhaust new, since I don't like scratches when it comes to CHROME exhaust.

unless anyone wants to sell me their MINT set?
the comptechs are really loud you may not like them after a while

Definately not really loud. Theres a subtle tone when accelerating, louder at full throttle, but near stock at cruising speeds.

dont need them for comptechs

not loud at all. I think they are too quiet sometimes and would like to add an aftermarket resonator to replace my mid-muff. Like what was said above, its nearly stock sounding on the freeway and nice and low when accelerating. loudest is about 2-4k. Sounds like a quiet V8, I always look foward to firing my car up. comptech is the quietest sounding exhaust out there, if its too loud then go back to stock because there would be no reason in getting the exhaust other then for sound for this car.

hence why I wanna do the piping TOO the stockies. including the cat.

I am really debating about the mid muffler change to magnaflow. (i had magnaflow on my probe and u could hear it at the other end of the 1/4 mile when it's at the start line and ur at the finish line)

so the exhaust is pointing the other way and STILL u can hear it NO problem.

I loved it for that type of car, but the CL is no tru sports car so I wanna keep it classy

2.5 inch magnaflow high flow bottle cat and 3 inch cat-back installed yesterday.

The good: I was finally able to open it up today going up a hill leaving my house. Butt dyno says it was well worth it and it made a big difference. Not sure if it's because it's cold and I have summer tires but the tires broke loose at V-Tech and spun through second (which it never did before).

The bad: It's loud, I mean, really loud, lol. Oddly, it seems to get quieter above 3k but I mostly operate in the 1500-2500k range and the drone in that range is killer. Currently it is a 3 inch straight pipe to dual 2.5 inch Magnaflow mufflers so I am adding a Magnaflow 18 inch resonator asap to hopefully reduce the crazy low RPM drone. I want to hear my exhaust but I also want to hear my passengers. Fingers crossed.

Hopefully I can hit a dyno early next year. I'll try to take it up to the altered alliance meet on Thursday.

Unless you are boosted, I see 3in piping as a waste on a N/A car. Unless its a Ferrari

Lol, my butt dyno is not laser accurate but I can tell you that it sounds good, feels more powerful in upper RPM range, and there is no apparent loss of tq driving around normally. If anything, the engine is now peppier at low RPM. I understand people being sceptical of whether or not it's beneficial over a 2.5 inch exhaust and honestly, I have no idea if 3 inch is any better. All I am saying is that 3 inch will not perform worse than 2.5 inch and if you're doing custom anyway, why not add a little breathing room for future mods. I definitely dont want to start an argument as I'm not an auto engineer and have no hard numbers to support my "butt dyno", all I am saying is I'm happy with it and I figured people should know.

i'm getting the wifey-to-be a new (slightly used) car this month. She drives a 99 sentra that is leaking a bit of oil. It's not really bad, but i'm going to use it as a winter beater now
We're looking at so many cars...CR-V, Rav4, Forrester, MDX (she wishes). But now i get to do a big project to the CL over the winter!

3" pipe is a waste on NA engine because you will endup loosing back pressure and torque/HP will decrease. If anything stay with 2.5" or 2.75" pipping.
