Does the exhaust upgrade make a difference?

-Adds a smooth, low, aggressive tone, and approximately 6-8 wheel hp
-Cat-back exhaust systems have been tested and do NOT make more power

Its easy to misunderstand the what CT says on their website.

The stock exhaust is pretty free-flowing. What they are saying is that they make 6-8 hp with the axlebacks, but installing a b-pipe shows no gains.

Yeah but most exhaust is mainly for tone, except boosted applications.
I wouldnt say its not restrictive what-so-ever. Its 2.25", the cat sucks, and the stamped y-split to the mufflers is garbage. Not only that, but the bends in the piping from the b-pipe to the mufflers is way too drastic. Upgrade to 2.5" piping all the way back including a 2.5" cat and a real welded y-split and you'll see gains, I guarantee it.

Forgot to add, when dealing with our style of exhaust, you dont need the muffler pipe diameter to match the rest of the piping (i.e.- 2.5" piping doesnt need to go into a 2.5" muffler).
Basically, figure out the surface area (in my example, we'll use 2.5") and divide by two. Thats 1.25". Try to get a Y pipe that goes from 2.5" in to no smaller then 1.25" out (2.5" to 2" = good; 2.5" to 1" = bad) Do the same for the mufflers. As long as the surface area is the same or larger, you wont cause a restriction.

^^^^ so i COULD get the xlr8 cat, then upgrader the piping fom the mid muffler to the exhaust??? and then i'd see gains??
I'm either looking to remove the mid muffler on stockies... or leave it and put the CT cans on.
all I know is my exhaust from the CAT... on, is hurting me, and my headers are begging for some HELP

well, the piping from the cat to the mid muffler looks pretty beefy considering its a stock system... so
SAY i got the XLR8 cat, left the piping to the mid muffler the same, then changed the piping from the mid muffler to the CT cans. and obv got the CT cans
what would u think that would add?
I want to keep the mid muffler for the clean sound and so i'll have a lil back pressure still for low end tq.
think that get me 10-15? whp

cause i wanna ice off this exhaust system early next year and then dyno it and get my 250WHP...
there's no if's ands or buts, this bitch is gonna put down 250WHP once i'm done with her

Id say upgrade to 2.5" from the headers back. Get a nice y-pipe. Pick up a magnaflow resonator to stick in place of the mid muffler and install the CT cans. I think you will be pleased.

i just don't want it to be loud in the cabin. which is why I may do the cat and the cans.... then see how i like it... if i want louder then do the custom piping.

ok so the ct header is 2.5" then the xlr8 cat is 2.5" then the (type S) exhaust pipe from the cat is 2.25" correct? How does even that work?
I'm thinking of BANG for $ here. so:
XLR8 cat
leave the 2.25" pipe from cat to mid muffler. (is 1/4 inch thattt restrictive)
then do the magnaflow midmuffler
and piping to the stokies... to see how it is..
and then go to the CT if i want more sound

I prefer the tanabe mainly because I think it looks better, and I love the way it sounds.
That and I only paid 463 shipped for it from some place that went out of bidness

lol you didnt know that. i think you can only get the axle-backs now. i dont think they make the full catback anymore. the only reason im able to get the b-pipe is because im getting it used from a member on the boards.
Hmm dunno, probably one of the reasons I went with tanabe instead of comptech.
i have the full comptech cat-back. trust me, it's not too loud. if you want to meet up, you can hear my car and judge for yourself
yea, i bet it sounds good. Comptech knew their stuff. If you cant find the B-pipe anymore, just custom fab one. or replace the stock mid-muff with an aftermarket resonator like a magnaflow.
ill have the comptech headers, p2r test pipe, xlr8 high flow cat, and comptech muffles when they are delivered. Do i still need some custom piping to have a complete exhaust or is what i listed all i need?
If i were you i would just save your $ and wait until spring. No point doing your exhaust right before winter.
In the spring we'll have a meet and you can hear SG81's comptech and my exhaust. That's the best way to decide what you like.

yeah, assuming you drive your CL in the winter i agree w/ gnuts. wait til the spring. no point getting it all salted up now
This is our exhaust:
Headers-cat------------resonator----(split into two pipes to mufflers)
If you want a complete 2.5" exhaust then you'll have to upgrade all the piping to 2.5". Our stock exhaust is 2.25".

any shop can custom fab the b-pipe. it's just a freakin pipe
