Do you guys ever wish you just left your car stock???

There are just sometimes I wished I left my car alone. First....the rims get fucked up.....which sosts me another $500. Then My JL Audio 10W7 starts to rip. Now my trunk looks dumb ( a 10" hole where the sub used to be)....and I miss being able to turn my music up loud....it sounds and looks sooooooooooo stock now, I feel I could have saved a ton of money by just leaving it alone. OR... I just might be being a pesemistic bitch:P Either way....I want my car back to the way it was a month ago.

No way. When I see a stock CLS they look way too whimpy with their skinny tires and SUV wheel well gaps. I feel bad knowing that my car once looked like that.

I, however, have stayed aways from rims and stereos--apparently a wise decision.

Well some people feel the need to push for every single mod they can afford or try to afford and others just drive the shit out of the car because they know they will like something new in a couple years..

I did light mods on my last few cars.. as for

The Acura... shit.. I had stuff planned for it before I even picked the car up from the dealership... I would fall asleep at night thinking about driving that 6-speed, 260 hp sports luxury coupe around town... and how I was going to make it different. Then I found this site called ACURA-CL.com and my jaw dropped and smacked the keyboard

If I could do it all over again... since I know I will never see the money I put into this car. I would say... Hell yeah...This is 1 hobby/lust for life that is all mine and I enjoy doing all my OWN work on the car..

Rims/Stereos are a waste of $. You never get out of it what you put into it.

Fuck dat. I'd rather invest money into something that APPRECIATES, not something that DEPRECIATES.

Who doesn't want more money?

Life is too short to have a bunch of regrets. As long as you didn't spend money on mods and neglected rent, food, mortgage or other important bills, don't worry about it. Money comes and goes. Have fun with life and your car, just be smart about how you spend.
I put 18's and a CAI on mine and it's a totally different car....wouldn't change a thing.

There's no way I'd ever keep the car stock, I never do. Like someone else said, when I see stock cl's I think to myself, dude, you don't have a clue what you're missing do you? And I don't even have heavy mods like a blower or sways (yet!). Someone else said they don't like sinking $$$$$ into depreciating items--then stop buying cars b/c very few appreciate in value!

NOTHING dealing with a car goes UP in value, unless you're into classic/rare cars. A car is a purchase, not an investment. Buy a house if you wanna flip your money.

All I have is rims and a mid-level sound system ($2500) and I'm perfectly content with that.

The one thing I DO wish never happened to my car was my front-end accident ($10k+ damages). Although the car is cosmetically nearly-perfect, a car is NEVER the same after a head-on accident.

oh yeah... EVERY CL should leave the factory with a 1" drop! they look retarded without one....

For the most part I am very happy with a modded car....just sucks when you have to soak in more money to replace a rim or tire because of a pothole

Not at all... my CLS 6sp is so much more enjoyable to drive after doing the CT mods for springs/sways/intake/headers. Also running Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 225/50ZR17s on stock rims. The only thing I wish I did do was replace the stock shocks with konis. The konis work so much better with the CT springs. You can especially feel the difference on rough roads. Konis provide a smoother ride on rough roads when using CT springs over stock springs.

As far as the audio system goes... I'm fully stock in my '03 CLS 6sp. IMO the stock audio system is very good. Adding a kicker would be an overkill and annoying to everyone inside the car because of rattles induced by too much bass and outside the car - besides adding way too much weight to the car. IMHO, updating the amp/preamp/cd would be a complete waste of money because of road noise. I love highend audio gear and found music is best listened to when reproduced FLAT - from amp/preamp/speakers...

No way. I love my car modded. The only time I roll my eyes is when my OBX headers make their wonderful "moooooooo" noise at 2500rpm. Other than that....I LOVE my car. Looks great and goes pretty fast to boot! I haven't done wheels yet...scared of bent rims. I don't mind the stock audio. I don't other people to know what I am listening to.

The only down side..
1) lost money on mods you can not recover at the sale
2) The ride is not quiet as before... not that too bad.. but it is not whisper quiet.

$20K on mods?

I have spent (with labor) around $2000 and that is over estimating and I have I/H/springs/struts/tint/STB...$20K...explain? I suppose that you could add audio but that wouldn't be the same in an M3...or the Comptech Supercharger but the M3 is NA also so comparing apples to apples.... I have a buddy that is an authorized DINAN dealer so I know it is easy to spend $10-$20K modding an M3 but the only CL-S I can think of that might have $20K rolled into it is that gold show car CL-S.

NO!
NO!
and NO!

I turned my car back to stock once (except the drop) and it was boring as hell. I missed the hissing noice from the CAI, resonance from the OBX headers and the bass from the sub.

This is a good thread.

Outside of tint, I haven't modded mine a bit and I don't intend to. If I had another $10K or so I'd have bought a more expensive car. Some of us don't buy a car to be a "canvas" but because we actually like it.

Hey, it's got 6 gears, a clutch, leather, beautiful wheels, black on black with black tint, 260 ponies, LSD, sunroof, and a CD changer in-dash. I do regret not getting the navi but I did save $2K.

It's anonymus (doesn't attract the carabinieri) and understated in its elegance. Friends frequently comment on how classy it looks.

I'd love to put a 1-1.5" drop and some 18s or maybe even 19s on her. And possibly an m5 spoiler. That's it as far as cosmetics go.

But performance mods... the more the merrier

No way...

I think of it as a hobby too... It's just something that sets the everyday drivers and a car enthusist apart, IMO.

I like it when I drive past a stock CLS, and see the people inside turn their heads with that half amazed and half confused look on their faces.

I was going to, but when I did a quick estimate of what everything would cost, I reckoned that I could buy a motorbike instead. But before that happened, I bought a house, now all my modmoneny is going towards buying really, really boring stuff, like a paved driveway ($2500) sod for the lawn ($1500) dishwasher, curtains...damn... this thread has got me all depressed again... time to take the CLS out for a spin!!

I customized 2 of my previous 3 cars. Wheels, tires, stereo, intake, suspension, driving lights etc...

Overall the experience was bad. The wheels bent, the exhaust was too loud, the driving lights got stolen (3 times I think) and on and on.

So, with the 6 speed it's stock and I love it. Just put a Momo shift knob and I took off the gigantic A C U R A off the back. That's it.

I'm a little older (36 in 6 days) and I want a car that I'm happy with right out of the box. I enjoy driving the car and keeping it clean and shiny. I have loved cars since I was kid. No G.I. Joe for me, Hot Wheels and Sizzlers. I appreciate Mods on cars when I see them, but I'm not into doing it at this point. But I was.

Exactly !!!

The only time I ever wish I had a stock suspension is when I’m on bumpy city streets.
Other then that I love the stiffer setup.
My car gets lots of looks on the road when she’s shining and I would never go back to stock.
No regrets here.

I figured you would regret it Shawn.... I'm just having a bad car month....shit breaking and getting messed up. Sometimes...I wish I bought it and left it stock. But when my car has the system....the 19"s rolling and I pull up next to a stocky...I think..."thats what my car looked like when I bought it"!

I used to have a civic that I bought for 16K (with leather and ABS package) back in highschool. I sank over 12K into it and still loved it everyminute until I took out a piece of paper and found out I friggin' put 12K into a 16K car. I've definetely learned my lesson about wasting too much money on a depreciating item. Just my luck my car got stolen a few months after I finished it (however only a week before my first show). I just do stuff for fun factor now. It's more of just a really expensive hobby is all. You like your new mod for a few months and then its' not such a big deal anymore.

I try to go easy on the pocket book now (especially since I do'nt work as much in college like I did hack in highschool). Rims are a really hard thing for me to convince myself to get now just for the fact that tires are so expensive to replace and the bigger you get, the more expensive and the more frequently you'll have to replace them.

As for your luck, that's just crappy that you've run into so many problems.
