Do I dare?

Hey everyone. I'm looking at buying a 2001 CL-S with 75000 miles. I've been looking at the CL-S for quite a while and keep reading about the horrible transmissions. I really want to get one, but is it worth the tranny headache. If you could do it over again, would you? Also, the one I'm looking at, the owner said he had the recall work done at about 20000 miles. Does that make a difference? Are the trannys still shit after the recall work? Any advice would be very helpful, as I need to make up my mind pretty quick. Thanks!

Despite all the complaints on this board, yes I would do it again. You have to realize that most of the people on this board, me included, are freaks about their cars. We like them so much that when something goes wrong on them, we go nuts. "How could somthing happen to a car this great!! (rattles, squeaks,etc.)." Since I have only owned one, I can only voice the opinion of one, but I still love my car and would not sell it anytime soon. My trans was replaced at 60,000 miles and havent had a hint of a problem yet. I think you will be happy with it. Its not a clunker and isnt going to completely fall apart on you. Also, this board represents only a handful of cases from my understanding 5% of ALL CL/CL-S produced from 2001-2003 were affected. Not a big number. I would go for it, im still just as happy as when I broke 50 miles on it and now I have 90,000!

Thanks for the replies. I think my fears may be put to rest. I'm handing over my E36 M3 in the next day or two, and like sob4681 said, I don't think anything compares to these cars in their price range. If I end up buying the car, I'll post some pics. Thanks again.

I've got an '01 w/80k on its first tranny and no problems, but it sure makes you paranoid...

how 'bout removing the tranny from the equation and getting a manual?

good luck...

Yes, I'd do it again. Love the 260hp and semi-lux. Would prefer a TLS (two more doors and better looking front end), but my CLS is still a winner. Navi would be cool, but not a "must have" ... probably because I don't know what I'm missing not having it now. Go for it, but pay the scratch up front to have an Acura dealership give it a once over.
