DIY'ing the 2G Headlamp??

So, i am pretty well known guy on the 3G forums... The girlfriend just picked up a MINT 03 CL-S, 1 female owner, 65k on the clock.. my only beef, was the headlights were oxidized

So, with the 3G TL headlamp , i have personally opened up almost 30 of them in the oven and blacked, cleared or customized

Basically, i want to open her headlights, remove the amber, clean it up in there, and maybe black it out....

Are there any DIY's on here? Or if somebody has done this before, what are the heating specs?

With the 3G TL, its 220 degrees, 20 minutes, no pre-heat..... similar with the CL ?

I appreciate it!! I will now be spending a lot more time in the 2G Section!!

no need to go through the trouble of baking them....there's a writeup/DIY for wetsanding the headlights....works perfect and takes about 1.5 hrs...

but he also wants to take out the amber reflector. i dunno what he's talking about blacking it out, cause the 03s are already blacked out.

thats the link to the thread about clearing headlights taken from the 2G information thread.

yea i noticed these are already smoked...when i think of blacking out, all the 3G TL's that i've done, the housing is already chromed... and most people wanted it blacked out... even part of the 3G Type - S can still be painted black... i can put off the opening of the headlight, i just really wanna get rid of that oxidation... looks terrible

i dunno about the amber yet.... i hate amber.... but these headlights arent that bad... my big concern is the HID ballasts.... have you 2G guys had alot of trouble with them? Has there been a noted fix for it??

the heating process is the same. Use some VHT on the amber and leave the reflector behind it chrome. This will let more light come through the reflector. Or if u want a more darker look, just paint the whole housing cover to black.

i always Duplicolor enamel on the 3G headlamps... i might just leave it as is , and remove the amber... a nice set of 36 or 48 LED switchbacks should help the lights look brighter

Their blackhoused, not smoked. Yeah, the heating up is about the same as all other honda/acura headlights. I don't see why you would want to crack them open since the lights are already blackhoused... Just wetsand that oxidation off. Search "wetsand" and you should find alot of threads on it. Too much trouble to crack them open and run the risk of condensation just to clear out the little amber imo...

yea, i've never done a 2G CL... i've done dozens of 3G TLs and 2 8G civics

if im gonna crack them open, rest assured i'll do them right.. ive never had one set of lights leak that i opened....but my primary concern is the oxidation... so ill do that first.. ill try the wet sanding thing...

Here's a link to a recent thread by one of our members. Its a DIY on taking off the bumper, taking headlights out and opening them up. Nice step by step with pics. I'm doing this soon while my CL-S sleeps for the winter. So give us an update when your done. Hope this helps.

Use a finer grit and then some plastic polish, they'll clear up
