Bump. I just finished soldering the face and I tried testing it out. It seems as though only the 2 lights that work consistently are the 2 that light the screen which shows the track listing, radio station ect. When connecting the the board to the main unit I notice that all of or most of the lights pop on for a spit second but go away. Seems like something isn't contacting properly. Any suggestions on where to go from here?

Make certain the LEDs aren't shorting out when you put the face plate back together. Maybe stick a piece of electrical tape or some stick felt behind each LED. The bast way to make sure nothing is shorting out is to solder everything as low as possible, so no LEDs or resistors are sticking up far enough to touch anything one reassembled. Maybe post some pictures or what you have.

Could you just put a resistor in the illumination wire leading to the radio? What would happen if you didnt use any resistors?

Backlight Question

Would anyone who did this mod know the answer to this: Does one of the bulbs provide the backlight to the LCD display on the radio? The backlighting just on the LCD display went out recently and I may go through with this mod if it fixes it. Thanks in advanced for an replying to an old thread.
