DIY Air Filter Replacement

All,

About two years ago I replaced my air filters (the ones behind the glove box) and I did so by following directions/diagrams I found on this site.

Anyone know where to find them? I don't see a DIY section or an archive like there was on the old site..

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it. I did try using the search feature but to no avail.

Thanks.

Here is the excerpt from Jens on changing the "panel filter":

To access the interior air filters you will need a Phillips screwdriver, a pocket flat blade screwdriver and a sharp knife. Open the glove box and empty it of whatever you have been hiding in there.

There is an air piston on the right side that slows the opening speed it is attached to the door with a screw, remove the screw, and pop off the air piston.

There are two stops on the inside the glove box, pop both out with the small flat blade (screwdriver?).

The glove box will now open downwards, there are two Phillips screws holding the door to the dashboard structure. Remove both screws. The door can now be removed.

You will now see two Phillips screws that appear to hold nothing in place, remove these. Leave the metal clips in place.

There is a serrated panel visible -- it must be cut away from the dashboard structure. Save this panel as it is to be reused later.

There is now a vertical white plastic panel visible that can be snapped out of the way and removed.

The filters are the two vertical boxes that are now visible. Remove the bottom one first by pulling it towards you then lower the upper one and remove it as well.

Exchange the filters noting that they have arrows on them for airflow. The boxes that contain the filters are marked as well. Install the filters in the boxes and reassemble the filters into the air box. Take the white panel and snap it back in place.
.
Now take the previously cut out plastic panel and turn it so the two hooks engage the two slots in the dash structure. The two screws that did not do anything are now used to secure this panel in place.

Reassemble the glove box in reverse fashion from disassembly.

This job should take you about twenty minutes or less.

They are technically called cabin filters, but these are the directions you need.

As for part numbers, don't know. They are like 15 each (there are 2) from the dealer.

Doing a search here for cabin filter will turn up a bunch of threads.
You can get the stock ones from a honda or acura dealer... the purolator ones I got had 2 filters (all that was needed) for $21.00 or so... Both the dealer and purolator are made by Micron...

Thanks Green. Any suggestions on where to pick these up in NYC this afternoon? Otherwise, I'll just have them shipped.

If it has to be NYC, I'd say order it. I had to go to a couple places in North Jersey to get the ones I needed. I'm not sure if you will get them in the city. If you can make a trip to Jersey, Brooklyn, or Queens, you should be able to find them. Or just call a couple Autozones or Pepboys.

Green I am not dissing the Puroloator filter but just for everyones info I contacted Purolator and :

re: Purolator C15390:

Purolator did use Micron/Freudenberg as a supplier for the C15390, but now manufactures the product. Purolator does offer some cabin air filters with carbon impregnated media depending upon the application, but does not have a charcoal version of the C15390 at this time.

When and how often does the cabin filter need to be changed?

Ravin,

Well, I'm in Morris County right now, but I'm headed to Manhattan later and so if I could pick it up there, I would. Perhaps it'd be cheaper to order them than pay NYC prices.

So nighthawk, is there an alternative to the Purolator that you'd recommend?

Corporations do their best to confuse consumers. EricL has done way more research then me. However since you guys are in a hurry, I do not righ there this second have a walk in one. However here is a mail order one by Micronair:

http://www.micronair.us/Honda+-+Acura/2 -the higher priced one does seem to filter much better. I'm not pimping it, but its particle filtration is sposed to be much better.

Will type more when i get a break.

Pall brand sound good but where to buy plus it appears they only make for planes?

Anywho a good Q & A on this site.
With some of the killer flus lurking around, ie Sars and Bird flu -finding a kickin cabin air filter may be something for all of us to consider.

No problem... the exchange of information is the core of the forums here...

I know the ones I bought had been sitting on the shelf for awhile... Box was a little banged up... So I beleive what you're saying about the source of the filters...

I'm too lazy to pull out my manual, but I think it's every 30K (starting at 30K)...

The filters with Activated Charcol are pricey.. I'm guessing the $58 is for 2 filters ??

I got Purolators 2 pack for $21 at pepboys.

yes $58 for a two pack. For newbs or noobs to this subject, bear in mind it takes a two pack per change/for one application. (Our CLs have two filters side by side, as shown by the DIY link.)
