Disaster -- clearing the headlights
So today, I decieded to take on the task of clearing out my headlights with my friend Chris.
It was a disaster. I mean, we got 'em almost done now, but the oven malfunctioned and it melted the top of the driver's side case. The place where the HID cover goes is melted and we'll need to reshape that.
The silicone was tough as hell, and Chris ended up just demolishing the edges of the black plastic case. We'll also need to heat that up and reshape it again so it'll fit flush with the clear part of the housing.
I can't wait to put them on the car, though. They look pretty sweet. I thought about painting it black, but decided against it.

All done, went to the body shop to mount them. Waiting for them to finish up on the front bumper, and I'm going to pick up the car in a few hours.
I found out that once the headlights are in, you can't access the corner bulbs. It requires taking off the bumper and the headlights. Luckily the body shop had some clear bulbs laying around, so I swapped them out and everything's clear up front -- but still glows amber when lit up. I can't wait to see it with the bumper back on. Woohoo!!

so you cleared them, but you had a body shop R&I the bumper?

What's R&I?
I dropped the car off at the body shop to get the front bumper repainted due to a mishap. While they had the bumper off the car, I figured I would take the headlights off and clear them out. Put the lights back on, and they finished the bumper today. All set.

I did get clear bulbs, but the one on the driver's side has a filament burnt out or something and looks odd. So I'm gonna have to take off the bumper and the casing again.
Is that not the stupidest design ever? You have to take off the bumper and the headlights to replace a turn signal bulb?

actually, you can jack up the car and get access to the corner bulbs through the plastic fender well thats how i swapped out eh amber bulbs with the chrome amber ones. i also taped off one of the balck nubs behind the bulb so it only lights up when i signal.

i take it back... you dont even have to jack the car up... when you're gonna do the left side... turn the wheel all the way to the right so you have some space... it'll be enough. vice versa for the other side.

PIAA or APC depending on which bulb you're looking for. Got mine at Pep Boys ---> www.1888pepboys.com
If you're looking for the blinker bulb (larger round one) go with APC, you can get in it Amber -> Linky
If you're looking for the wedge bulb (where you cleared the housing) go with the PIAA 19172, I have it on my cleared lights and I'm very pleased -> Linky
Hope this helps! good luck!!

Clearing the headlights was tons of fun, smoking the tail lights was a disaster lol. I didn't need any new silicone, I just used the stuff that was left on there and still warm from the oven, it has worked fine, no leaks or moisture.

bringing this back up....
im thinking of doing this and blacking out the housings... but i want to see pics of anyone elses setup who has cleared their lights and maybe blacked out the housing... i dont want my headlights to be mismatching the blinkers..so im not going to get them in hyper white bulbs.... im thinking of getting straight amber.... but i know under the blinkers there is another small wedge bulb.... im thinking of blacking out that part of the reflector and leaving out that small bulb since the reflector is not there, the bulb might not fill up the entire part and ill just see a dot....
so anyone got pics of their setup?
