Wow... I bought my Acura more out of frustration with overpriced, expensive to maintain / repair European rides (BMW, Volvo, Audi, etc) than really wanting an Acura. I got a stong recommendation from my brother who has a '02 RL. Somehow, I thought that Acura would reflect the sensible design, durability and "cheap to keep" heritage of its parent - Honda. So many posts here concern poor design, bad reliability and crappy service - makes me wonder what I'm in for. My '98 2.3CL Premium w/5 speed is fun to drive, fast enough, comfortable and stylish... bought it with 43k on the clock and now have almost 53K. Other than oil changes and an air filter, it hasn't cost me more than gas. So, what's the real story... a good ride or potential lemon? Any "positive" experience stories to be told by our fellow CL owners?

 

This board in almost totally '01CL and newer. If we spent our time relating the good (expected) things we go through with our cars there wouldn't be room for anything else. The idea is to help others when they do have a problem (except the Kids who race and complain about cheap parents).. YMMV

 

your car is bullet proof bro. drive it to 200k miles if you wish. the problem cars like co-cls said is the 01- cls. you have nothing to worry with! go to the 1st gen section to find out more about your 98, but i have heard nothing bad about them

 

yo man your car is fine...it'll last a long time...some first gen owner has over 200k miles on his car...

 

Take it easy man......for the most part the Acura's are ok. Aside from the auto tranny issue things are good. Enjoy your ride.

 

5 and 6speed speed hondas and acuras are pretty solid and very durable

Need maintenance bad. And my dad won't pay for me. Shit sucks....

Rotors, pads, valve adjustment...

Otherwise the engine is holding up...
