In desperate need of help. Acura 2001 CL, VTEC System Failure P1259

I just bought a 2001 Acura CL and a few weeks after buying it, it had some issues while driving and the TCS and check engine light came on. Now the check engine light is all that's on, but the car has trouble on the freeway sometimes. I got it scanned at Autozone and I guess it came back P1259 VTEC System Failure. They printed out a paper for me that says the most likely solution is: Replace Variable Valve Timing (VVT) Pressure Switch. I don't know what that means, how to do it, or what tools I'll need. I recently started work again, because like I said, I just bought the car and I really can not afford to miss work or lose this job. If someone can please help with advice and/or directions, it would seriously literally be a life saver. I've tried to do my own research, but keep finding conflicting information. Please help and thank you in advance. What part/s do I need and what tools do I need?

Hey Justin, welcome to Acurazine.

I think a proper game plan would be:
  1. get a hold of the soft copy of the service manual; you can find it by searching for "1999-03 service manual"
  2. familiarize yourself with the troubleshooting process and make a decision
    1. it's too difficult/extensive for you to repair and take it to a trusted mechanic
    2. you can handle the diagnosis / repair and proceed to the next step
  3. if you want to do the repair, do some searching for that code here to see what others with your same CEL code have experienced so that you are better prepared for the repair; unfortunately I have not had that problem, I can only imagine it to be one of those things where a sensor just finally died or someone did not maintain the oil and something more extensive has occurred (and possibly why the car was for sale?) <--making a presumption here.
