Denver Bound
Well the time has come for me to make the move. Come Tuesday I will be moving to the Denver area from SoCal
.
My question is, is ther anything in particular I need to do the CL once I get there. Being a different climate, does the oil need to be changed? Do I need to get snow tires?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Just be careful on the drive, I think this next week is supposed to be pretty bad. Overall I've noticed my TL with pretty low amounts of tread on the tires is still great in the snow. I usually will drive in D2 because otherwise with how slick sidestreets get I cannot get my car going. Check out the Colorado meet thread, it would be great to get more members there.

Yeah I am afraid of the weather that we are gonna be getting tonight in Cali. Its the same storm that I will be driving through. I am not sure if I want to take the northern or southern route, I will know more when I leave Vegas Weds morning.
I will definately check out the meet section.

Sounds good. If you don't mind me asking, are you actually going to be in the city or in the suburbs? If you can on the drive (weather dependant) I would go on I-70, that'll take you through some gorgeous areas.

I am actually gonna be in a town called Loveland for about 3-4 months. I was gonna take the 15 to the 70, weather permitting. my alt route is gonna be the 40 to the 25 north.
I heard the 70 will give me the best views across the mountains.
I hope the 70 isn't as bad as it was last week when they shut it down.

I-70 will for sure be a much better route for sightseeing, 25 will bring you up through the boring parts of the state until you reach the highlands ranch area, which is at least close to town. Are you only going to be here for 3-4 months? If so, make the most out of visiting CO, go snowboarding if you can and if the weather gets decent take the CL up to pikes peak, its a fun drive.

Oh no, I am moving to CO. I will be in Loveland for 2-3 months then I am gonna move to the Fort Collins area.
Hopefully weather permits because taking the 70 will cut 2-3 hrs off my driving time plus I hate boring drives.
I always wanted to experience Pikes Peak, how far is it from Loveland?

Damn you know I'm not exactly sure, Colorado Springs is about 30 minutes from where I am 10 miles south of Denver, and Pikes Peak is probably another 20, though it's been a while since I went there last.

Its ok, thats cool. I will have plenty of time to do the things I want to do. Just hope my ACK can survive in that cold weather, coming from Cali where I have been wearing shorts lately.
Well hey it's always good to get more CL's in CO, I rarely see them, while I see a TL like mine every other block. I'll trade ya haha. Colorado really isn't bad, but January and February are by far the worst months of the year temperature wise. Have a safe trip, look forward to seeing you at a meet.

I have been throughout a good majority of CO...My suggestion is to at least go I-70 to Grand Junction, then there is a side route from there that is worth checking out. 50->92->133->82 (Delta, Hotchkiss, Marble, Carbondale) which brings you out to Glenwood Springs and I-70. Although, this may add some time to your drive.
Or instead you could take I-70 through to Glenwood Springs and then get on 82->24->91 (Carbondale, Snowmass, Aspen, Twin Lakes, Leadville, Climax [lol]) which brings you out to I-70 around Copper Mountain and Frisco. This route also takes you through the "top of the rockies" area, so i would recommend this route for the best compromise of travel time/distance/spirited driving/scenery combined.
Over the past quarter century or so March has been the month with the most snowfall on record...FWIW January and February are definitely he coldest months, but don't see as much precipitation.
Ft. Collins and Colorado Springs (Pikes Peak) are both about an hour from Denver, so Ft. Collins to Colorado Springs would be about 2 hours. All things considered though, there are numerous nice driving and scenic roads all over the Western 2/3 of the state. The other 1/3 is pretty much just plains lol.

Pikes Peak is approximately 130 miles from Fort Collins. Remember when in colorado the left lane is only used for passing slower traffic, the only exeption is in rush hour when traffic is congested.
Enjoy the rockies and when there be sure to visit the Pikes Peak International race way and the Garden of the Gods.

To add on to what the last poster said, they spray magnesium chloride on the roads here, that along with salt can wreak havoc on the underbody of your car. Get that shit washed as often as possible during the winter, like once every week or two.

Yeah I know the reviews arent so good but I think it's a hit and miss thing. I have always had a love for the Rovers, just been waiting on Land Rover and Ford to get it right. I think they are nearly there. We will see come spring.
