Debate between a CL s and a 02 Maxima

hey Everyone,

I am still very interested in buying a CL type S if I can find one here in Albuquerque. I recently went to a lot and saw this very nice 02 Nissan Maxima 5sp with only 32k miles on it. This car would be a few grand less than what I would probably be spending on a 02-03 CLs so I am considering buying it instead but I still love the look of CL's. Any suggestions or insight into the quality of the Maxima vs the Cl-S? Also I know the maxima has 255 hp and the cl-s has 260, what do each of them run as far as quickness if anyone knows? Thanks.

Jerome

To me, it's more than horsepower ... 2 doors vs. 4 doors, sytling, options like a Navi with the CL. I think a coupe is a more personal car ... like I bought it for me! However, having owned a '90 Max, and my son has a '97 5 spd, they're great cars. But since I owned the CL, one might say I am biased.

Yeah I agree on the looks. The CL looks so much better especially with the dual exhausts and all but it may be a 3-5k diff in price too. I think I am just gonna pass on the Maxima anyways but I wanted to get some other opinions

-Maxima has more tq, but CL-S has more top end power
-CL 5AT has better gearing (altho the tranny is weaker)
-Maxima has pretty poor resale value, as does the CL-S (just not quite as bad)
-Insurance will probably be a touch higher on the CL-S (lux brand, 2 door)
-CL-S has a nicer interior, better radio, and LOTS more standard luxury options
-Maxima is lighter, has a very decent aftermarket, and is pretty easy to make quick NA (mid/high 13's)
-CL-S has much nicer leather

Looks are subjective, but I think the Maxima has a weird rear end, but the CL-S is pretty boring looking too.

I say get whichever has less miles & has been maintained better.

Yea, sometimes the new maximas are growing on me.

The cl-s front looks kinda boring too, but i love the back of the cl-s and that's the side most people will be looking at haha.

I felt that way too when I first laid eyes on the 2000 Maxima and after having owned my 2002 for 3 years, I still feel that way as well. But, it doesnt detract from the Maxima too much IMHO.
