Debadged and pissed

I just debadged my car yesterday. Letters came off fairly easy with fishing line. BUT, the rest of the stuff won't come off and I think some of the paint chipped off as well. I used Goof Off, still nothing. All of the soft foamy adhesive came off, but now there is this super hard layer that is very noticeable. I used my finger nail and a CC, but nothing, stuff is too hard. Any ideas? Would the dealer be able to fix this or should I go to a detailer? Should I just have them put the letters back on?

Maybe some really good "polishing" compound would do the trick.

I debaged my 01 cls a couple months ago and it turned out fine.

I got that same hard stuff...what you have to do is just keep covering it with goo b gone or whatever, and scraping it with a credit card. It took me a couple hours to get it off. Its a bitch, but it will come off.

Put some elbow grease into it.

Alcohol and Elbow grease, expect to wax afterwards. My Type-S, came off once and a little paint too, and like you, the gray foamy shit was left, so I did the above mentioned and it came off. New badge on, and covered up the chip.

What did you use to put the badge back on and where did you get it? I'm afraid it is never going to look right, so I might just put them back on.

I wonder if the black paint, since it gets hotter, sealed the glue harder. On my white CLS, the badge came off pretty easy, and some moderate work got the grey glue off too.

I know when I did my 01 CLS that the heat gun was a key to get all of the gooo off.. And for the fading I used a little polishing compound.. But you have to give it a few days once you're done to.. I know I was all pissed because I still saw the marks but other people thought I was crazy and didn't see anything..

I'm keeping my CLS stock, but I agree that the rear of the CLS is too damn busy. Pulling some of the badges off cleans up the look of the rear.

THAT AND... We don't need no sticking badges (another random movie quote)

if you read my question about it in the detailing section there is a product from griots garage that works great with removing adhesive and also tar.

I took mine off after reading some posts and I really like the look. Smoother and cleaner, also easier to dry after a good washing.

My car had the A_C_U_R_A debadged when I bought it. They did a shitty job and scratched it up with very fine tiny scratches. I'll be getting those buffed out (hopefully they will come out) sometime this summer.

did you try the clay bar?

I debadged last summer... so I had the car for 1 yr 3 months... I noticed the same thing your talking about... clay it, polish it, wax it.. I did it a few times and no problems...

When I first did it.... the dew from the cool evening would settle on the car and I could clearly see A C U R A....... it is gone now... I think......

i plan to get my 99 cl debadged.. just leave the A without the border.... but i plan to get it done right.. i dont want there to be any imprints so i plan to get the whole entire trunk painted and redone. have any of you guys seen the A logo alone with no border?.. what you think of it?

I debadged right after delivery. I think it improves the look of the back big time.

Well, I guess I just take another crack at it this weekend and spend a couple hours on it if needed. Oh another thing, I went to Autozone to get a clay bar and they thought I was crazy. They have never heard of a clay bar. Anybody recommend a good national chain that would carry them? If not, I guess I have to order one.

How about heating it up? Have you tried that? like just a hair dryer? that might soften it up a bit..

i debaged my car after 2 years and everything came off fine. I used a credit card and goo gone for the really fine sticky stuff. Then i waxed and waxed and waxed some more. Plus i did it on a really hot day. Just take it to a pro detailer and have them take care of the trunk area.
