dealer overfilled my engine with oil

usually do my own oil changes, but because its cold -- I took it to Acura dealer and gave them 5qt jug of Mobil 1, I think these idiots just dumped entire 5qt and now oil is 1/4 inch above maximum mark on a stick. You think it could be a problem?
People think DIY is to save money, well no, its to avoid incompetent people touching your car, apparently dealer is not perfect.

I don't think a 1/4 quart is going to cause problems like blown seals. But if it were me just for piece of mind I would drain just a bit.

Chrysler did the same thing to my wifes Pacifica a few months ago, I gave them 6 quarts and they put it all in. I made them drain it till it was in spec, and also they left the rear diff all covered in ATF, and 75/140 weight gear oil.(It takers both types of fluid in the rear diff.) I was pissed! I made them power wash it also. I will never go back there again.

does it result in 1/4 inch over max dot ? I am trying to see how much 1/4 inch is, is it really 0.25 qt? yeah, they say up to 1/2 qt over should not be a problem.

4.6 qts is the correct amount with oil filter, so you handed him a 5 qt container of oil and that is what he put in. You are probably .4 qts over,no harm there. If you want it right on the full line, give him 4.6 qts next time.

let alone, when you burn some of the oil anyways, it will just self correct lol

but yeah i also just dump in 5 quarts too
btw i already burn enough oil at times (motor is dry as far as any leaks are concerned); that i kinda want some reserve, but then again it does not help when vtec does not kick in because you have already burned enough oil to get too low of pressure

and btw after that happens about 2 quarts of oil will bring it back to the full mark

how much goes in also largely depends how long you let it drain, the plaes that change oil (including dealer), are in rush, so they dont wait long enough for it to drain. So I am thinking I realistically got 5.1 qt or so. BTW, I just drained some of it out with a clear tube via dip stick.

They also installed sh*tty new honda filter that is twice smaller than M104. Well, when summer comes I will do it right myself.

technically if you have maintained your car with frequent oil changes, that is all you should need, but yeah i rather have an oversized filter on there, in case it does get dirty enough to plug up and bypass

just a little history, the standard OEM filter for this car was much larger (same size as Mobil1 ) until Honda decided to switch to smaller filters. So M104 is really the original size of OEM

, but then maybe you should look at the stock size for a nissan v6, even smaller (i would say about a pop can in diameter, and half the height of a can roughly), let alone less oil in some of them too

our motor only take 4.4L of oil

I buy the mobil one jug here in canada it's 4.4L and that's almost too much as it is..

i'd say 4.3L is exact... but i just throw the full 4.4 in so i don't have to dispose of the good oil.

Canada is using outdated metrics systems, in US and A we use quarts , mobil1 jugs here are 5qt=4.7L, the exact is 4.6qt (by manual)= 4.35L. So my dealer dumped 4.7L, obviously too much. I had to drain some of it, no one can change oil as good as you can change it yourself, even Acura dealers suck.

Dude, you're burning way too much oil if this is true. I sense a rebuild coming soon. My car has 150k HARD miles on it, and I never burn any oil.

And to the OP, I wouldnt sweat an extra 1/2 quart. Just make sure next time to just give them 4.6 qts, or do it yourself.

So you bought the oil and did Acura charge u there regular oil change fee to do the oil change for you,

because thats what they do here. If i go to autozone and get oil for 30 bucks with a filter Acura will charge me 38 to do the Labor WTF thats why it do it myself

now that i am not driving as far to work, and the fact that i go into and leave work during rush hour, i am not so throttle happy, because i barely get enough open road now, to just floor it (i was probably a good 4-5k rpm's on average before; now it's probably like 3k if that)
