If the clutch was burnt to hell as he said, it has been abused and slipped, either by him or a mechanical failure to completly engage. Since it's a hydraulic actuation, I would guess someone is harder on the clutch than they realize.
I'd have to say Acura should not be on the hook for a burnt clutch. I had a clutch toast at 50k on a Pontiac. Just quit all of a sudden. Had the work done at an AAmco. I took the parts to my Pontiac dealer and showed where the pressure plate had a manufacturing defect. They sprang for half the bill, even at 50k miles. Knowing mechanics and being able to discuss intelligently with them the problem helped. If it would have been all burnt though, no way to sell them on a faulty part.
Sorry

Unfuckingbelievable. What's with Acura????? 27K on a manual tranny is NOTHING!!!! Unless this guy LAYS on the gas and does burnouts all day long, clutch failure at this juncture in the car's life is just insane.
Call Acura Customer Service...that is completely insane.

You live in Dayton...I would go directly to the factory and fucking insist that something be done about this. That is totally unacceptable. I wouldn't stop until you get results.

It had 6 miles on it. My hometown dealer told me this morning that he thinks that acura made a mistake with putting these clutches in the RSX, CL, and TSX. He thinks they cant handle the power, especially when you see the commercials of the guys rip and roaring through the country side.

If your want stock parts, go here:
www.acuraautomotiveparts.org
Have them shipped to you or the dealer Clutch kit is only $243. Have the flywheel resurfaced. The comptech clutch/flywheel is close to the price of headers.

Hughesne,
Like others here have said, 27,000 miles is a tough call.
If the clutch was often run really hard it could easily be worn out by then.
I think your best defense and/or argument will be your driving history.
You’re only 25, so at best you have 7-8 years of driving experience before you bought the CL-S.
How many of these are on stick-shift cars and how many miles total?
How many miles were on the car when you bought it? A 75-mile “test beat” by an aggressive drive can easily put a serious dent in the overall life of the clutch.
Have you been to the track with the car?
I went to the track once with my car, but I don’t plan to do it again.
Those conditions are just too tough on a car that you rely on for a daily driver and expect to last.
Does anyone else drive it without you there?
I’ve ridden with people who consider themselves great drivers and I cringe at their techniques.
No, I’m not perfect either, but some things you know you just shouldn’t do to a car.
Things like holding on a hill for more then a minute without using the brake pedal or revving the engine to 4,000RPM while backing out of a parking spot at 2-MPH.
Honda is known in the business as a company that makes great manual Tranny’s that will easily last 150K or more.
The clutch IS a wear item like tires, brakes & wiper blades and it’s hard to prove them defective unless you have a consistent history of failures.
I guess we’re gonna have to hire Tom to go through your 285 posts and see if you said anything to incriminate yourself in the past.

I didn’t really remember that he’s the one who posted about doing that.
It’s funny how much things can change in a week.

Hey guys, long story short, i have a 6sp. And last week i was hot roding around town and im not sure if any 6 speeders have done this, but if you get the rpm's to bounce off the rev limited while the clutch is pushed, and you shift gears to fast the car will keep bouncing off the rev limiter.
Well the fucker smelled like burnt clutch for 2 days.

I have read nothing today that suggests that this was my fault, i drive like a NORMAL 25 yr old, im not 16, never dropped the clutch. This should be a textbook warranty item.

Where is my super sauce?
Someone needs to post one of those OWNED pictures.
Sounds like you need a racing clutch upgrade! Might as well get the Comptech installed when they have the transmission off.

I said i think i burnt up the clutch a tad and asked for opinions, everyone said that i didnt and that hitting the rev limiter wasnt bad on the clutch. I think i said that at the start of this thread. Oh well. Glad to have the continued support from the acl board. And you guys (and honda america) wonder why people are selling the CL for g35 and 350's. Ive seen civics burn around town and last 100K on thier clutch, 1 short outting of less than 5 seconds should not and would not completely fry a clutch.

I now drive an accord....
I remember reading that thread and thinking "man this guys's and idiot and must be a noob to stick shift". Good at least now I don't have to worry about my clutch

I would not expect a stock clutch of any street vehicle to survive many redline dumps.
In the end, it's no big deal. Just replace the sucker. It's an easily replaceable part, it just costs a bit. Racing can be an expensive hobby.

Even with that experience I agree the clutch should last longer then 27K miles. I know another CLS 6 owner that went past 45K miles already & they go to the track 3 times a month, & does burn outs for fun, & his clutch is still fine. His stock suspension is shot, but the clutch is fine.

Once the clutch is fully engaged it doesn’t matter what the tires are doing.
