dealer asking 22.5 for an 02 type s 29k miles (no navi)
can i find a better deal? he says he won't go lower than 22.5 k, used a paint guage on car, shows signs of repaint on right/left front fenders.car fax report (provided by dealer) says no accidents/police reports, I asked if car is on original tranny, he says he will check & call monday-am. should I request all maint reports if available?

It's not the best deal...it's okay. If it really was in an accident, stay away. Car Fax isnt 100% accurate, if the bodyshop didnt report the accident, then it's gonna be clear.
As for the tranny, I wouldnt be too concerned about it...it can go at anytime....at least you're covered until 100k.

Whats a paint guage? and where do you get one? and $
I'm still looking for over spray,sand marks fish eye and runs!
On the car it seems steep but dealers usually are. Lou on
this board let his 03 6spd with i think 9k miles go for that.

Not a very good deal IMHO...
Ignoring all the "paint" issues, to me I'd ask 20K. But with the paint gauge showing variances in paint thickness, etc. I'd probably walk away.

I paid 22.5 for my 01 CLS w/27k miles in Austin Texas (certified pre-owned)...carsforsale.com was asking 24,995. At that time Edmunds.com certified vehicle price was 23,8. Of course mine did not have paint issues. Dealer even paid for my plane ticket to come pick it up. MAKE them work with you!!

I just got one this past weekend. Mine had higher miles at 62k miles. But i was able to get it for $16,900 and it's certified.
What sucks is they just got one in that's the same color (silver) with 26k miles and asking price is $21k. I'm sure i could have gotten that one for $19k.
So if they give it to you for $22k out the door. Then not a bad price.
