I got an 04 TL 5AT for a loaner once when my 03 CLS 6MT was in for service. I think my car had a better quality interior and was a lot faster stock. The TL's are nice but sound like a tin can inside with the windows are rolled up. If I had to choose between an 03 CLS 6MT and an 04 TL 6MT, I'd go with the CLS 6MT every time. But I'm a bit biased.

hey, what specific problems did you have to make u think you needed to take it in to the shop? just wondering because my tranny has slipped twice in the last week coming to a stop... i'm debating whether to take it to the shop or not.. also i feel as if it has lost some power and its getting terrible mileage. thanks..

What is it with the AT tranny, exactly? Is it a design flaw? Is 260 hp too much for a tranny (i presume was designed for 225 hp), or is it abuse?

My folks have a 99TL with no trans issues at all. But then again, they are 86, so there is not much throttle stomping going on between the two of them. Just curious.

design flaw in 3rd gear I believe .. the way I remember it is the transmission doesnt allow enough fluid to reach 3rd gear to cool it, so you burn up 3rd. EricL did I whole write up on it, search for the post .. whether you beat it or not it will go though, that has pretty much been proven.

VSA light comes on The 1-2 shifts short, won't come out of third at speed. Low idle problems as well.

This is the opinion I got when I read thru the different NTSA reports on the tranny. Just a sorry ass crappy design from people who should frickin' know better. And there is no way they are going to "fix it" because sooner or later, the cars affected will be out of warranty and they'll be home free.

and when that warranty is up thats when I decide ... go with the hardened tranny from Velocity Resources and boost the fuck out of this car .. or go with something else and start all over ... choices, choices
