Finally got a chance to take the CL back home and run my good friend in his '03 WRX.

Cars:
CL - Headers, IceBox, girlfriend in car
WRX - Intercooler Hoses, Headers, Up-Pipe, Down-Pipe, Exhaust, Lightweight OZ wheels, & Mom in car w/ video camera, lol.

Race 1:
Roll from ~10mph, a little turbo lag on his part so I had an early lead. Shift into 2nd and the WRX is just behind my rear bumper. Pretty much even through 2nd then DAYUM... I pulled about 3-4 cars in 3rd ! Let off about 90mph.

Race 2:
Roll from ~15mph. Hessitated a little which allowed his turbo to spool up . Cars were DEAD EVEN through 1st and 2nd but again, when I shifted into 3rd pulled about 3-4 cars on him . I let off at about 110mph in 4th.

Quick little thing that WRX. I was willing to go from a stop but he really didn't want to tear up his clutch for a little race. I am just glad he hasn't upgraded the Turbo yet! He let me drive it... great car, handles and drives awesome! Different feel not having torque and nothing really happening until 3,000+ rpm but it was fun! On a side-note, I saw several truckloads of STi's traveling South on I-5... watch out L.A.!!

Yo, I kinda raced a modded wrx with what semed to be exhaust and oz superleggas. it started as a roll from the light, then I heard him pin it, so I followed right after. He pulled a car length on me and it stayed that way until about 80mph, then we closed in on traffic. That thing was fast and I flooed it when I was in that dead area in the rpm's where there is no downshift and no vtec yet. kinda embarrasing, but understandable, him having allwheel drive.

 

hmm... I gotta race my friend and see how his third gear pulls

This is exactly wat happened with me this saturday. Raced a slightly modded wrx 3 times....and al;l 3 times i left him in 3rd gear....wat is it bout our 3rd gears??

I'm sure it's partly because of gear ratios, maybe the CL is a little more aerodynamic as well. Here are the overall gear ratios for the two cars:

CL
1- 12.92
2- 8.14
3- 5.59
4- 4.11
5- 3.21
6- 2.53

WRX
1- 13.47
2- 7.59
3- 5.33
4- 3.79
5- 2.88

You will note that the WRX has only one gear lower and that's 1st. But I don't see why it wouldn't pull hard in 2nd too? Maybe 3rd is just a magic gear

Don't worry everyone, he will have a video soon. I'm making a little movie with his CL-S, my WRX, a Saab 9000 Aero, and a Ford F-150 Harley Davidson Edition (kinda like a Lightning). Just give me some time. Thumbs up to the CL's!!

 

Yup... BlueCL6's car is unusually quick I think 13.8's-13.9's easy with some DR's.

 

Thanks for the props! Remember though when we raced (shhhh) I didn't have my spare or rear seats. Even so your car still pulled away! I am finally getting my windows tinted Thursday so I can put all that stuff back in

The reaosn you guys pull on WRX's in third gear is due tho their AWD. It saps MUCHO power once they get past second. Their drivetrain loss is somewhere around 18-20% I believe.

Ther'e MOMSTER'S out of the hole with the AWD. Just get it up to 3500K to let the turbo spool up and then dump the clutch. Gone. From a roll though, it's a whole other story!

 

M-diddy, you're dead acura-te on that wrx. i've ran 2 different wrx's. on from a dead stop and another from 70-110mph both had exhuast one had intake( 0-70 run ). i was in my last car 02' altima 3.5se 5 psd man. w/stillen intake and exhaust. for the 0-70mph run and took him the first time by about 1/2 car length.
then he got pissed and wound it up then dropped the clutch at the green light. and instantly put a half car length between our bumpers. he killed me but i was catching him in third.
on the freeway they have no balls! (excluding the sti) i walked away from one hard from 3rd gear on in my 03 cl-s 6spd....
