Dash Modification Ideas???

After a lot of researh, I have chosen to buy a smartire pressure monitor with remote display and the Bel 975R (remote) radar detector (no flames from V1 bigots please). I want to mount both of the displays in the area where our dash tray is but I don't want to destroy the tray because I tend to trade cars every 1-2 years and want to take the stuff with me to the next car. Any suggestions of what to use as a mounting plate over this area so it will match the matt finish of the dash? Pictures would be much appreciated.

I have the Bel Unit, it fits perfectly in the ashtray.

Thanks BLK CLS, that has given me another option, but I think I would rather replace the "not an ashtray" with the display. Have you thought about this? I have heard it is difficult to get the "not an ashtray" out. Is this so?

the ashtray thing can be removed.. you have to take the red part out to install it.. Using that makes it tight... just spray paint the thing black or something.
