damage has been done
well today, went on a cruise and had some fun on the highway. well i missed 4th gear and went into 2nd. rpms were bouncing off 9k for 2seconds. then i pressed the clutch. thought it was all good, but we got a gas stations and opened the hood, reved it a bit and their was a lot of ticking going on, loud ticking. my exhaust sounds diff now on accelerations and decelerations. so im guessing a bent a valve or two. ticking is comming from the front.
gonna check compression tomorrow. what should it be between? engine at operating temp or cold? my engine was already ticking but just barely, like the valves need to be adjusted. so im gonna check those tomorrow.
i just hope the pistons are too fucked up. need to get me though the next couple months until i buy a dd. FML

fucking sucks
i was gonna text u after u left to tell u, i thought ur exhaust sounded different. she was still pulling really hard. i hope its just a lifter.
lmk if u need some help working on it (not this weekend or next weekend htou, haha)

O man rajca, sorry for the problems with the DD.After your compression test. How long till your pulling your heads? Any type of worked planned for them since this will be the time to get into them? Since its a DD you probally just need it back together.Any way GL and I hope some thing justs needs to be adjusted man.
Were you on the spray at the time of the mist shift ?

i wasnt on spray, bottles are empty. i hope i dont have to pull the heads (HOPE), but if its bent valve, head has to come off. now work will be done, just to fix whats broken and back on the road.

just got back from church. started teh car, not as loud as last night but the exhaust tone is definitely different. it seems like the noise is coming from the front and back. im just gonna take the valve covers off and check the valve adjustments.

not sure about the valves yet, but i cracked the roller on the rocker arm. so im gonna put in one that my friend is lending to me. heres a camera pic of it. thats the only thing that i have found so far.
looks the same when i missed shifted but the whole rocker broke in half. hopefully you dont have to replace too many valves. and btw if you have bent valves wouldnt you have to break in the head again? the gearing on the 6 speed is so close thats why i missed shift, i down shifted from 5th to 4th and missed to 2nd.

^thats how i fucked up also. i would need new valves, and guides. if i can get a way with it, and not replace any valves now, that would be great. then next year i would get forged valves. stronger springs and rocker arms. along with building the whole engine.
sounds like a good idea me and you think alike. i was going to build the 3.5 but i went broke haha i have the bottom block j35a4 but waiting on better mounts.. but if you have bent valves it'll run like shit, ive tried to drive my car after and theres no power and it drinks gas like a v8.
5th to 2nd? omfg I feel so sorry for the car damn! Imagine you had no limmiter !!! whhhewwww that must be the worst sound/feeling
I never hit the wrong gear in 5 years of driving my rigged probe, and that was with destroyed bushings, I had to remember what gear I was in cause the shifter was soo sloppy..... goood timess. Man did that teach me hgow to drive though.
Anyways... just pop some more CL-S6 ROID pills and you'll B ready to destroy again!

^ at the point a limiter doesn't help. It just cuts fuel and spark. Motor is still being overrevved by the drivetrain.
Tom. Honestly I think the sound we heard was the lack if a lifter on that rocker as it worked that valve.
Keep us updated!

if i have to replace valves im just gonna get some forged ones made. but how much selling them for? u wouldnt have a rocker arm would u?
valves new on acruaoempart cost roughly 15.00 a piece, intake rockers were a surprise to me at 80.00 for intake and exhaust rockers at 20.00. figure out what you need and I'll sell you only what you need. valves at 7.00 and rockers at 40% of what you would buy them new. The ones I have are brand new.
was the stick shift a lil sloppy prior to this incident? (as in worse than it would feel brand new)?
Or is the gear box literaly thatt small?
Cause from the standard cars I've driven... (Porsche carerra S, BMW M3, Ford Probe Modded up the ass and beaten to shyt. And the only way I could see it happening is if the bushings are worn then they are loose and you throws are off allignment in some cases cause it's all over the place in there.
Or maybe that's just me?
happened to me for like 2.5 yrs b4 i did anything about it. bushings were toasted from the winters and old age. So i just got some polyurethane washers I had and snugged all that up together and it worked like it was brand frigggging new. If i only knew it was that easy i'd a done it like 2.4 yrs earlier

its not sloppy. its really good. i guess i just wasnt paying attention. and i almost never shift from 5 down. im in 6th (highway cruising) so i dont know y i was in 5th in the first place.
lol.. u live and u learn I guess. Oh we'll if it was an american car and u reved it that high you could have easily demoed your entire motor.
Look on the bright side... you know hoe to fix shit urself and it's FIXABLE. lesson learned.
That is odd though I must say. Most cars are really hard to shift into a gear when it's that far over the redline. Frigging acrura. I knew there trannys shifted smoothy but damn. Maybe too smooth lol.
Ahh well. turn this incident into a HP increase and u'll be glad you downshifted into 2nd :-)

^ its happened to me b4 too, but i never let the clutch out and let the motor sit there like tom did
so did u get that assembly in or not? i can't sleep at night thinking about ur possible ruined motor (oh wait, maybe that's b.c i haven't slept since it happened b.c i've been on the road since)

lol. im about to go take one out of a friends car right now. then put it in my car. and test compression and test drive. a yea, cant forget about doing the valve adjustment.
Damn. Ive done that twice, first time was the first time driving a MT, my old Civic. 5th to 2nd on the highway. Second was in the CL, 5th to second. Luckily I caught it at 7k rpms and didnt let the clutch out completely.
I will be upgrading to Supertech valve springs when I build my motor. Id suggest the same for you, especially with your power goals.

looking at his pics, i would be more worried about the cam. assuming the pistons didn't hit the valves, if it failed at the rocker, not broken by the bad valve. hey tom did u try pressing the valve down? just make sure the keepers don't pop out
