Custom Exhaust? Anyone have any experience with doing one?

I have a question for everyone. Has anyone ever had any experience with getting someone to build a custom exhaust from the down pipe back? Instead of buying a GReddy, or a Comptech. Just have someone custom wield the piping, throw on a high flow cat-back from a respected company and finish it off with some tips.

There's a shop in the North Shore area of Mass, that does this. A friend of mine got it done on his Dodge Charge with Flow Master Cat-back. Only paid $400 and he's felt a good difference.

Any comments or opinions would be appreciated.

I'm in the process of having one done myself for my car ('01 CLS). So far I've had the resonator removed and have 2 1/4 piping cat-back to the stock mufflers & have already noticed some difference. However, I did ask about having additional work done to finish it all off & same shop told me they can do the rest for another $300-325. Total for the whole thing looks something like $400 also. Looking to go with Magnaflow for my application though. Definitely a cheaper alternative to the other high dollar systems that you had mentioned....

True dual exhaust

I'm thinking that if they can, Im going to see if they can route a true dual exhaust. Have two Cat backs, and two mufflers. Get rid of the Y pipe all together. I'm sure it will be a little more, but It might be worth it.

I highly doubt it since they need to have another O2 sensor. The computer would need to be reprogram so that it would work with 2 sensors =D

Damn, that must be loud...I wanted to go with 2.5" but heard someone who had it & they said they get followed by "the man" a lot since we're located here in Cali. Tryin' to be not TOO noticeable ...

Has anyone out there done the mod to a true dual exhaust? How much did it cost?

My best friend made me a custom exhaust at his shop. 2.5 from cat-back then 2.25 to the Magnaflow mufflers. I felt a nice difference with this. I'd recommend it. Never tried any after market ones tho so I wouldn't know the difference...

Oh yes, and it's using a Y-pipe. :-)
